The info about the free communication weekend on the help section of the eH web site states that non-paid members can use the guided communication process on this free weekend event.

On this free weekend will a non-paying member be able to use then Open Communication, after completing guided communication?
As a paying member, why would I want to complete guided communication in the hopes that someone will then decide to purchase a subscription? Not likely they will do so!
Thanks

Yes, this weekend is a FCW. Non-paying members will be able to create a profile (if they have not already) and go thru guided communication with other members. After guided communication, they can also enter OC with members if agreed upon. Then personal contact info is exchanged so that if the non-paying member decides not to subscribe, contact can be maintained.

A quick note: (1) Even though it is FCW, non-paying members CANNOT view photos of other members so do not be surprised if you are asked for a photo despite having one on your profile (paying members can view all photos as usual) (2) On FCW non-paying members cannot go directly do "Eharmony Mail" (formerly FastTrack) even if invited to by a paying member. All non-paying members have to use GC to get to OC.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

Are you sure????????????????????

This is the way that FCWs have worked in the past. However at this very moment there is a FCE going on in Canada where non-paying members can not go beyond Second Questions. See this thread for how the Canadian FCE works:

http://advice.eharmony.com/boards/da...ion-event.html (Free Communication Event!)

I would like an official explanation as I have 106 matches that I have sent First Questions to who are quite obviously not paying members so if any of them were to communicate during the FCW then there would be no reason to expect that they would get to Second Questions and then decide to pay for a subscription to continue communicating with me. Therefore if it is going to be as the current Canadian FCE is there would be no reason for me to waste my time communicating with anyone this weekend since I am a paying member.

OK, I found this directly from the eH web page. Nothing has changed for us in the US for this FCW. The answer to everyone's question I put in bold. Hope this helps.

We're excited to announce our Free Communication Weekend, taking place from Friday, May 28 (12:01 a.m. PT) through Monday, May 31 (11:59 p.m. PT). During this weekend, you can use our Guided Communication process to send and receive messages from your matches absolutely free.
To get started, simply log into your eHarmony account. If you don't already have an account, it is easy to create one. First go to www.eHarmony.com and register for free for our service. Then, complete our Relationship Questionnaire. If we find compatible matches for you, we'll deliver them to you shortly thereafter.
To enhance your experience during this special promotional weekend, we recommend that you:
Complete your My Profile "In My Own Words" - Your "My Profile" section is the first way your matches will get to know you. It is vital that you answer the "In My Own Words" questions within this section. Customers that take the time to answer these questions thoughtfully and completely really stand out from the crowd.
Post Photos - If you haven't done so already, post photos to your user profile - the more the better! Users that post photos are nine times as likely to receive communication requests as those that don't.
Communicate with every match - During the Free Communication Weekend, most customers receive a number of matches based on our 29 Dimensions of Compatibility. Why not reach out to all of your matches to find out why eHarmony brought you two together?
Please note: eHarmony Mail and Secure Call are two additional ways of communicating with your matches. For unpaid members, eHarmony Mail can only be reached once you've completed the Guided Communication process - it's the last stage of communication. Paid members can jump directly to eHarmony Mail. Secure Call, our anonymous phone service, is only available to subscribers at an additional charge to their paid membership. Additionally, while you may post photos, you need to be a paid subscriber to view your matches’ photos.

I realized you posted for Renee or Lori but they do not always check each thread on the boards. Was trying to help. The best way to contact them directly is to use the "contact us" info on the side (or send them a PM directly).

I copy/pasted the answer directly from the site. If you want the link to see for yourself, here it is: https://help-singles.eharmony.com/ap...tail/a_id/1520

From everything I've seen, it really looks like nothing has changed.

What Tonya posted is certainly helpful. However, it's vague enough that a moderator's official answer on this would be appropriate.

On reading the first part of Tonya's copy, it looks like ONLY GC is open to non-pays. At the end, with the part Tonya bolded, the rules get murkier.

Of course, since the unannounced downgrade, my trust in eH has plummeted. So perhaps I'm just overly skeptical now.

Hi Dbgirl and everyone –

I can understand the confusion. In Canada, there was what we called a “Free Guided Communication Event”. So, as Renee said in the link Gr8guyn2008 posted, members were allowed to get to know each other through the Guided Communication process, but were required to subscription to go through to eHarmony Mail (AKA “Open Communication”). Please see:
http://advice.eharmony.com/boards/da...ion-event.html (Free Communication Event!)

This weekend in the United States and the UK, there will be a regular Free Communication Weekend where members, whether paying or not, will be able to go through all the stages of Guided Communication into eHarmony Mail/Open Communication.

For the UK, the Free Communication Event goes from May 27, 2010 (today) starting at 4:00pm GMT and goes through Monday May 31, 2010 ending at 4:00pm.GMT.

For the United States, Free Communication Event goes from Friday May 28, 2010 starting at 12:00 Pacific Time and goes through Monday May 31, 2010 ending at midnight, Pacific Time.

Dr. Tonya is right in that anyone can post as many photos as they want and write a complete profile. However, non-paying members won’t be able to see photos. Take a chance anyway – we get lots of happy reports on people who didn’t see photos before meeting.

And yes, as DrTonya mentioned, we're all here if you need personal assistance.

Hope you’ll all take advantage of the Free Communication Weekend and you’ll get out there and make connections!

I was not aware of the very weird FCW (but not really) in Canada. That would explain the sudden increase in men contacting me - not to mention the very bizarre Step 3 messages I got from one match. Put me down as "severely unimpressed with this style of FCW". I lost out on the chance to get to know much of anything about this particular match because he was spending so much effort incorporating his contact info and asking me out into the questions/answers.
