Just saw a commercial saying that eHarmony will offer a Free Communication Weekend Friday through Monday.

No big surprise that it fell on Memorial Day Weekend, the annual couples only holiday weekend where singles hole up in a fit of depression.

Thanks for the warning. It has been a while since the last one. Not sure I'm quite ready for the Sprint to OC that is the madness of FCW!

The last thing a paying subscriber wants to see is yet another free communication weekend during which eHarmony collects soon-to-be-dead profiles.

The people added to the pool do not fill out their profiles, see how little eHarmony offers by way of value, and disappear. And these are many of the profiles you will receive daily over the next few months. Another opportunity to "arichive" (an activity that eHarmony is charging you for).

I appreciate the heads-up on the weekend. It means it's better to stay away from eHarmony and take the three-day weekend to get ready for summer.

Well, I for one am glad to hear there's a FCW this weekend. There hasn't been one 10 weeks or so. I wish it were starting Thursday, though. My son graduates from high school this weekend, I'll have houseguests, and we'll be pretty busy.

I turned on matching Saturday anticipating one was coming up. eHarmony never has many matches for me, and so far the ones that have apparently signed up in the past 10 weeks have been doled out 4 at a time. Of the first 4, I closed 2 as they were obviously not good matches, and one has apparently quit as his profile is no longer available. As for the second set of 4, there are no obvious closes off the bat.

The one left from the first day sent me first questions today. Hopefully he will wait until Friday for me to answer.

By the way, I have a completely filled out profile, photos posted and I state that I only participate in the FCWs in my profile. I have actually had better luck with FCWs than I ever had as a paying member.

never been through an FCW before. questions:

1. non paying matches during FCW can use OC? can go right to email just like paid matches, skipping GC?

2. I've already gotten two matches this week who had private email addresses in their profile to contact them - first time that has happened. Both were "request photo." Does this happen a lot - I don't get it - why would you not post a photo when you are trying to get people to bypass the EH system and contact you directly? are there a lot of photo-less incomplete profiles during FCW?

I agree with Wonderwoman; free weekends are by far more successful for me. And I shut my matching off a day before the end of the FCW. Lots of other non-members use the FCW and we all know how to do it - FAST!! You can't sit around and mull it over and check them out six times before you send questions. Just send them. It isn't a marriage proposal and they are here for much the same thing that you are, so move on it. For all you guys that hate the free weekends and stay away during them: how many of the people who post on this site are regular paying members? Any of your favorites? So see - same thing with the free weekend - lots of great people there. It's also such a different pace and a change can be refreshing. Be brave.

Non-paying matches cannot skip GC. If they want to take advantage of the FCW they need to go all the way through GC to reach OC.

As for the other question, apart from posting an email or IM screen name in a profile being against the terms of service, I really couldn't tell you why someone trying to "get one over" on paying for the service would still handicap themselves without a photo. From experience I've never had someone who got me their contact info before a FCW ended to continue ever follow up after the FCW ended.

Looks like I'll be around for this one as I usually miss most of the warm weather holiday FCWs. My plans to tailgate at the lax final four have fallen through so looks like I'll be catching the action from home.

Assuming that this US FCW is going to follow the format of the current free event going on in Canada then you can't go to Open Communication without both people being paying members. So a FCW is now worthless.

Many times on previous FCWs I have gotten through Guided Communication and gotten to the point of meeting the matches that were only on for the FCW.

??? Non-paying members have never been able to go directly to OC/eHarmony Mail without going through GC first on a FCW. How is this one any different?
