I'm a 29 year old male that's batting horribly for team eHarmony. I tried to portray myself accurately and somewhat uniquely, but maybe it's too wry/facetious? Honest feedback is appreciated. Thanks!

What are you most passionate about?
I have a passion for music. I'm not really musically gifted; I sing like Barry White and dance like Pee-Wee Herman, but that doesn't stop me from getting my groove on. I have a penchant for songs that you can relate to and really capture what your feeling at the moment. Some of my favorites are: The Beatles, Bon Iver, Smashing Pumpkins, Neil Young, Andrew Bird and Milli Vanilli. Okay, maybe not that last one.

What are the THREE things for which you are MOST thankful?
1. Family/Friends. Many people aren't fortunate enough to have a good family or friends; it makes me really appreciate what I have.
2. My one-year old golden retriever. He's a goofy, crotch-sniffer that loves to play tag and hang his head out the car window. No matter how bad of a mood you're in you can't help but laugh at the big doofus.
3. Nature. I never underestimate what a simple walk can do. I'm a fan of subtlety: the serenity of a fresh snowfall, lightning on the horizon and sunlight shimmering across a lake. I know that sounds corny but I don't care.

Who has been the most influential person in your life and why?
Alf... No, I would say my brother. I realize now that he wasn't just my 'brother' but my best friend. We had many infamous moments together like, well, let's just say we were quite the mishievous duo. I'm grateful to have an older sibling to look up to and learn from. But Alf is a close second.

What is the most important quality that you are looking for in another person?
I admire an inquisitive mind. I enjoy having intelligent conversations; questioning the world around us as well as ourselves. I like to ponder anything from the mundane to age old questions, like how exactly did the universe begin? is there an afterlife? and who let the dogs out? I'm afraid we shall never know.

Other than your appearance, what is the first thing that people notice about you?
Probably my dry, ironic sense of humor. Sometimes I find humor in the lamest places: Chia Pets, mullets, Scott Baio and my Hoof Arted hat. Some people don't appreciate this, but hey, it beats having a wet sense of humor.

What is the ONE thing that people DON'T notice about you right away that you WISH they WOULD?
Because of my humor, some may think I'm sophomoric or shallow, but I have an acute, cognizant mind. I relish those poignant moments that make you feel; even simple ones like having deep conversations under the stars, seeing my one-year old nephew smile and sharing a passionate kiss and warm embrace. It's hard to describe, but it's something you can't forget.

How do you typically spend your leisure time?
I have a variety of time consumers: entertaining my dog, playing boardgames (Agricola is my new favorite), going to concerts and shows, pretending to be good at sports (you should see my tennis skills!), reading, writing, and visiting various places (parks, museums, zoos, sports venues) I don't watch much TV, except for Golden Girls reruns; that B. Arthur was quite the looker!

What are five things that you "can't live without?"
1. Sports (esp. baseball & football)
2. Traveling (although I haven't gone too far; Florida, D.C. and Chicago. Oh, and Iowa!)
3. DVD's (The Office, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Band of Brothers)
4. Books (Lord of the Rings, ancient history, Hemingway)
5. Fanny Packs.

Describe the last book that you read and enjoyed. What was it about? What did you like most about it?
Against Happiness by Eric Wilson. It's a quick read about the relevance and misunderstandings of melancholia and how it's different than depression. He shows that many of the greatest and most influential artists and composers were melancholics, such as: Beethoven, Keats, Melville and John Lennon. I think melancholia leads to self-awareness and understanding. It can urge us to question, to grow, and to create.

Describe one thing about yourself that only your best friends know.
I can fart the alphabet...

Is there any additional information you would like your matches to know about you?
Ultimately, I'm looking for true companionship and mutual understanding; to encourage each others' dreams and desires and to share memories while creating new ones (am I full of cliches or what? Enough to shake a stick at!). So if you also love cliches, well, birds of a feather flock together.

I think it's amusing and very well written. That being said, you might consider changing what your best friends know about, you unless you are trying to attract a male.

Also fanny packs? I think this was an attempt at humor, but all the other things on your list seem real, so I'd change that one.

Finally, is your brother still around, it's phrased like he isn't.

Yes I agree with VB girl about the one thing only your friends know. You aren't going to attract a wide variety of gals with that one. Also, this is perhaps minor... but some girls your age might not know who Alf is? I really like your profile, you sound like someone who would make me laugh and girls love guys who make them laugh.

Yeah, that is pretty sophomoric (I can't even burp the alphabet). Maybe I should mention my bright yellow speedo...

My brother is married and has kids so we don't get to hang out like we used to. I guess I could rephrase it.

Thanks to both of you for the feedback!

Fanny packs are real. Though they may not be as fashionable an accessory as they once were.

Personally go into Alf more detailed then cut it off with the "...no". I'd find it funny, however I am a male. And anyone around 29 that doesn't know Alf, isn't worth your time; i'm 23 and know Alf.

I love your profile!! I wish we lived closer so we could potentially be matched

Anyways, I agree with removing the farting thing - you've got a good humor-but-not-too-much thing going and that's a bit much.

I personally like your word choice, but I'm a writer/editor by trade so I use words like "cognizant" and "sophomoric' regularly. The average Jane, however, might not. And I can't really give you some good synonyms right off the top of my head but I'll think on it.

In this sentence, I would invert your examples to read: "...seeing my one-year old nephew smile, having deep conversations under the stars, and sharing a passionate kiss and warm embrace." Putting the nephew right before the passionate kissing could read badly if someone is scanning quickly (like I did the first time! )

Also, fanny packs are popular with guys here if you wanna dust yours off!

Edit: I'm 23 and I know Alf too! Personally anyone who doesn't isn't worth your time

Hmm, I've always loved Oktoberfest and lederhosens!

Oh, it's dusted off and ready to go! Are speedos popular there too?

Thanks for the encouraging replies; I was a little worried about my quirky humor.

If you've never seen the combination of fanny pack AND speedo, you haven't truly lived.

It must produce some strange tan lines but hey, to each his own.
