Recently I noticed when archiving matches from my new folder, that some matches don't require you to confirm the archive (the pop-up) You click archive and they're gone. (this also happens during closing too)

Yesterday and today I received a few matches, that stated in their profiles that: they were no longer members. When I went to archive, so I could close both of these matches, I was not asked to confirm the archive (with the pop-up) Now with these two, it was clear since they both stated it, but it also happens with others, at least once or twice with new matches.

So I'm thinking, this is either another bug or a possible way to determine a non-paying member.

Anybody else notice that some matches require you to confirm the archive, and some don't?

I think it's a bug. I have a few matches I am sure are non paying (not said outright, but lack of content and none of the new things filled in) and when I closed or archived I still got the confirmation pop up.

I did have one or two matches where the confirmation didn't come up.

When in doubt, assume it's a bug, considering what's been going on recently.

I've also noticed some matches still have the tiny Close Match link at the bottom, while others have Archive Match. I haven't figured out why.

Are they both in your New folder? Matches in your New folder should have the Archive while a match that is in your Communicating folder will have the Close.

Since my procedure is to send First Questions to almost every match that I receive I rarely ever close any matches. I never put any match into the Archive folder as a way of putting them "on hold".

Here is a possible explanation for what you have observed. Say your match has put you into their Archive folder. (As I understand it you do not know when a match moves you to their Archive folder.) Then if you also decide to move them to your Archive folder, this may not trigger the need to confirm the Archive. Should this be how things work then the fact that you did not have to confirm the Archive would more than likely indicate that the match is a paying member. At least it would indicate that they are an active member. Just a thought.

Just a few words on this. First off not having photos or much in a profile is certainly not an indication of a non-paying member. I have communicated with many matches that have no photos and / or a scant profile who were paying members.

Also you may want to wait until there has been a FCW before closing anyone that does not have a clear red flag in their profile as there are many people who are active yet are only on during FCWs.

Maybe "should" but that's not how it is. Some of those in the Communicating tab have a Close link, some have Archive. Maybe the software is psychic and telling me which matches are better choices.

I've said this too you before, but I think you keep missing it. The archive folder for me, is where I place the photoless and incomplete profiles. I then use the ice-breakers to request them to complete their profile or upload a photo. This keeps my communicating tab organized.

So far this has worked for me, about a dozen matches have either posted pics or completed their profile and I've meet up with two of them.

That wouldn't make sense, as the two most recent matches I experienced this with, both stated they were no longer paying member/ active members in their profiles, their matching should have been off!

This was one of my suggestions in the EH product teams May singles product feedback sticky thread, matching should be automatically turned-off when subscriptions expire.

eHarmony is not going to do this since this would then prevent a non-paying member from ever being matched. Their business model is that a non-paying member will be matched with someone that they want to communicate with and will then pay their money.

If a non-paying member is an active FCWer, then they would be able to turn-on matching.

Well, every sales organization, needs to reevaluate and tweek their business model at some point. Do you think the EH product team is here on the boards, because membership is on the rise still? I bet renewal rate is down, as well as the FCW conversion rate.

The smoke and mirrors show, eH has hide behind for many years is being exposed with the incrjease of the free sites. Even a third party has published that eH has 96.25% dead /inactive profiles, The stigma of the free sites being mainly for hook-ups, is slowy fading, as more and more serious people join them. A large majority of my EH matches are also on the POF.

G8guy, I know eH has been the most successful website for you, but reality is, the quality of the product is not what is used to be, and until productive changes are made, they will continue to lose market share.

As a long time supporter, I can't continue to defend a business model that is in need of serious tweeking. The core communication/matching model is fine, it's the little things that are in need of change.

ETA.. Gr8guy.. I apologize if this seems directed at you.. it's not. I am just frustrated with the company.
