I get 5-8 matches a day. Not one of them has closed me since archiving began.

I am doing a little experiment to see how many matches are active, so I am closing only the really odd birds it bothers me to keep open (maybe one a day).

I am finding up to 70% of my matches are real - viewing profile or initiating/responding (I have a theory about this, that in the EH algorithms females my age who initiate are relatively rare and thus favored to get more matches overall, maybe more live ones.. ). But thats besides the point right now... what I really want to know is whether others are finding no one is closing.

also i have to say, love these boards, i probably would have cancelled on EH if I didn't have the boards to give me perspective.

I always close right away. I don't archive. I either communicate or close within a day. I am a 34-year old male and get about 7 matches a day. I have closed out 90% based on attraction (including not having pics), another few on profiles. I know, it probably sounds like I am too picky haha. But no need to leave anyone hanging in archive world. You either want to chat or don't. I don't believe in falling back on your 5th option. Never a good recipe for success in my opinion. I think some people want the other person to think that maybe they aren't active and feel bad closing people (if they use "anonymous" viewing) so they archive. That's their style.

I haven't been closed out yet, but I'm sure it's right around the corner.

I have not been closed since Archiving became an option either. I strongly suspect it's because it's now too many steps. I have closed a few myself and it's a pain in the butt having to archive them then fish through the archives to find the match again just to close it.

This is annoying because if someone's genuinely uninterested, I'd rather they close me than leave me in 'limbo'. (Yes, I've left a couple of guys in limbo in the Archives section but I've got as many matches as I can handle in Open Communication at the moment. When they peter out, I'll contact the guys in my Archives. So, it's a timing thing rather than an interest thing. Besides, if they were interested enough to contact me, I'd find a way to fit them in.)

I send First Questions to almost all my matches. On the rare occasion that I have a match that I know right off that I would not be interested in then I will close them right away. I do not put any matches in the Archive folder except that you have to do that in order to then close them.

Since the archiving process began I have had as many or more matches close me as I did before.

I seriously doubt that this is the case. While it is rare for a match (girl) to send me First Questions. If eHarmony sent more and better matches to the people that initiate with the largest percentage of their matches then I would be getting more than one or two matches a week and I would not have 88 non-responding matches in my Communicating folder. Of these matches 19 have viewed me in the past two weeks and that is far from your 70% so you are doing very well indeed.

Welcome to the boards.

Margaret, I haven't been around enough to notice if there is a difference, but i agree with you that this board is extremely helpful and that it is difficult to navigate eHarmony without advice.

This is essentially the strategy that I follow too. Because this is the strategy that I use, the archive/purgatory/on hold 2.0 "feature" serves absolutely no purpose to me other than to add steps to closing a match I'm not interested in.

I don't think I've had as many closes without communication as before, though I have noticed more new matches are viewing me. My suspicion is they are viewing and archiving when before they would have been viewing and closing. They aren't closing right away now because either they assume archiving is closing or they just don't get it or they don't want to go through the multi-step process of closing a match.

On your last statement. You aren't giving your matches the chance to close you first if you are closing so many so quickly. Just an observation.

I have been close by a total of three matches since archiving began. I've closed a ton, cause I'm that kinda girl, don't leave them sitting.

I will say this archive feature has sparked a bit more of Ice Breakers and 1st communications from my side. I figure if I put them in the archive tab, it's for a reason. Why not tell them they need to update (upgrade) their profile or should post a photo?

But since you are initiating contact, you wouldn't trigger the new Archive stuff.

Once we initiate, then it falls back to the old "Respond or Close" options.

Like I speculated a few days ago, I think the "Archive" stuff is going to affect the gals the most, as they are the ones that usually do NOT initiate, but wait for the guy to do it.

Thus, I think women are going to see less Closes, which I suppose makes them feel better about EH...

But in reality, it is a lie.

They have been Archived, never to be seen again, and the guy is just too lazy to go into Archive and properly Close them.

The only secondary problem I have with this, is that ultimately these gals that have been Archived by guys that have no interest in them, are going to THINK these guys are still available and might be interested in them.
Thus, these gals will have higher expectations about guys contacting them, and when it doesn't come to fruition, they will just end up more mad at EH about "lack of men contacting them".
