Not sure who's in charge

The one thing Dinah is most passionate about:
I am passionate about finding a musical instrument I can take up without being prevented by a couple of old injuries. I played since I was six, but had to give up at 25, and now at 48 I'm tackling the dulcimer, which is sort of an anorexic guitar.

The most important thing Dinah is looking for in a person is:
Concern for others.

About Me
Basic Information

Occupation:
publisher of an interracial relationships magazine, reader-submitted stories
Age:
48
Height:
5' 6"
Wants Kids:
No
Kids at Home:
No
Ethnicity:
White, non-Hispanic
Religion:
Buddhist
Drinks:
Several times a week
Smokes:
Never
In my own words
The most influential person in Dinah's life has been:

Grandparents - in a snobbish, wealthy and bigoted family, they set me an example of always putting others first. I try my best to make them proud, wherever they are.

The three things which Dinah is most thankful for:

Having had a life with a lot of ups and downs, which makes it possible for me to cope with new ups and downs!
Having been set an example by my grandparents of thinking of others before themselves
Being blessed (I think) with a good sense of humor
Three of Dinah's best life-skills are:

Volunteering my time to causes I care about
Using humor to make friends laugh
Managing my finances
The one thing Dinah wishes MORE people would notice about her is:

I can take charge when it's appropriate, like teaching a class or at a traffic accident (first aid).

The things Dinah can't live without are:

Humor
Close friends
Pets
Music
My new Buddhist faith (I'm not evangelical)
The first thing people notice about Dinah is:

My slightly silly sense of humor.

Some additional information Dinah wanted you to know is:

I learned from a difficult marriage to put time and effort into a relationship and listen; I won't quit on you easily.

My interests
Dinah typically spends her leisure time:

I hope to get involved soon with the local Buddhist church; I'm about to become a Buddhist. I look forward to finally having a church community again. I love my cat very dearly, and have had many pets over the years. I will be starting a new exercise program as soon as a small procedure is done on my foot, and I'd love to have an exercise partner.
The last book Dinah read and enjoyed:

"The Ultramind Solution" by Dr. Mark Hyman. Some very new/old ideas about nutrition that sound useful if not altogether tasty. I may try it.
According to my friends:
Dinah's friends describe her as:

Funny
Generous
Caring
Good Listener

This is the very first impression that you get to make about yourself to another person and that first impression immediately refers to something negative - health problems. You could easily reword this in a positive manner that you are trying to learn to play a new musical instrument and also, what does playing an instrument do for you? Show a little more of what's inside of you. What moves you about it? Why the need to play?

The three things which Dinah is most thankful for:

Having had a life with a lot of ups and downs, which makes it possible for me to cope with new ups and downs! Again ominous and reads as more possible negative baggage
Having been set an example by my grandparents of thinking of others before themselves Find something else to say instead of repeating what you just said
Being blessed (I think) with a good sense of humor Based on everything I've read so far this is not even remotely believable.

Some additional information Dinah wanted you to know is:

I learned from a difficult marriage to put time and effort into a relationship and listen; I won't quit on you easily. Reads as baggage even if you mean it well. Really should not bring up past relationships and ex baggage into your profile or even first conversations even if you think that it was a positive influence in your life. Your audience will hear/read it differently.

Tell us what you do with your free time. This reads as the terrible crazy cat woman stereotype and a newly converted religious zealot to boot. Do you read? Do you like theater or movies? Do you like the outdoors or prefer indoors? Do you have any interests? Hobbies? Do you spend time with family and friends? Do you travel? What do you do on weekends? On vacations?
The last book Dinah read and enjoyed:

"The Ultramind Solution" by Dr. Mark Hyman. Some very new/old ideas about nutrition that sound useful if not altogether tasty. I may try it. Again, a negative backhanded "compliment" for the author.

Specific comments above. If you are truly as negative as your profile comes across, then you should probably work on yourself before trying to date. If that is not you, then you have a whole lot of work to do on this profile so that it will reflect better who you are. Also, be sure you have nice clear photos of yourself. Before anyone reads your profile, photos are the very fist thing your matches see.

Hi Dinah,
As a dulcimer player I like your profile a lot, haha!

I agree with Dancing Fool though ... I think you are being sarcastically funny in a lot of places but it does create a kind of negative vibe. Think of it as a minor mode on the dulcimer. Can you make a major mode?

You get more flies with honey than with vinegar.
