I received a 'flexible match' this week and I can't figure out why. Based on his profile, he matches my all of my settings (distance, height, drinking, smoking, religion, education...) Eharmony states that flexible matching will only be flexible when it comes to those settings and not their '29 dimensions of compatibility'. If this is true, is it possible that I am a flexible match for him, based on his settings? In other words, when I see that a match is a flexible match, it is also considered a flexible match for the person I was matched with? Or, is it possible that someone is a flexible match for me, based on my settings, but I am a not a flexible match for them, based on their settings?

Its flexible for age and distance settings too under BOTH parties.....this match may have been good on your terms...but not on theirs.

You recived only after the other person was willing to accept such a match.

Every match will be compatible on the 29 Dimensions. A flexible match means that there is something within your settings that they don't meet right on. eHarmony will not tell you what particular setting they did not quite meet and made them flexible. It is possible for a match to be flexible to you and you are not a flexible match to them.

In most cases it is very difficult to determine exactly why a match is a flexible match. Depending on where you live it could be distance even though you both live in the same city. I can have this situation where a match could be outside my distance range yet still have an address in the same city. Also another area where you could not tell unless you discuss this with your match is religion. If you are Christian and have selected a preference for certain denominations your match could still be Christian and yet not be one of your preferred denomination and therefore be a flexible match.

Since you cannot tell why they are a flexible match I would recommend that you communicate with them and then if you desire at some point later you and your match can compare all your settings to determine exactly why eHarmony has decided that you are a flexible match.

No need to overanalyze it.

If you're interested in the person, start communication. If not, don't.
