Okay, so I've used eharmony many times in the past, and had great success with my matches.

However, when I come back to attempt to use eharmony later, i STILL have matches from months and months ago in my new and communicating matches.

I need a way to mass archive EVERYONE, so that I can start fresh. I find this as a horrible UX/UI issue in the site. There is no way directly from the list of matches to close/archive, or select multiples and do the same.

Having to do this on 280+ old matches is enough to deter me from signing up again.

There has to be a solution to this besides paying someone to do the tedious task of archiving all my old matches.

Help!!

Ok, so you left those matches open the last time you "quit" eHarmony. I've done this as well. It's not a problem, really. You left them there. I had to close over 500 matches the last time I got back on.

You might be able to contact customer care and ask them to clear it out for you. Not sure if they can do it. Other than that, you could delete that account and start over.

Hi Him,

This is a good question to ask, as this is a really new feature and people are still getting the hang of its ins and outs.

Andieisme is correct that they have to be archived then closed one at a time, if you’re subscribed. If you’re not subscribed, you can close your account for a period of time (maybe a few days) and the matches should all shift from your New and Communicating tabs.

Also, if a match has closed you, you don’t have to do anything, because once a match closes you, the match will be auto-archived.

In the meantime, in order to navigate the matches with whom you want to communicate, you might want to use the “Sort by” feature on your My Matches page. You can sort by Recent Activity, Communication Stage, or the date that the match was create, most recent and least recent.

There is also a search feature where you can type in a match’s location or name to locate them on the page. Just type it in the search field on your My Matches pages (all tabs).

Good luck,

Kate - So you're saying that if you close your account, and then a few days later call up eH and ask them to reopen it, all of your matches will have moved over to the "closed" tab (including any with whom you were communicating)?

Did I understand that correctly?

So, that's something to do only if you wish to close out all of your matches (no matter what stage they are in)?

Otherwise, you have to close hundreds of them individually (something that Andieisme was apparently willing to take the time to do, but that I most definitely am not...lol)? (Or, more likely, you just archive them because it's double the work to close them...)

I just want to make sure I understand the options correctly if I decide to activate my account again (I currently have matching turned off and am a non-subscriber).

Thanks!

Hi Neardc –

That’s right. Only, with the new Archive feature, I’m not sure if they’ll be moved just to the Archived tab or to the Closed sub-tab. I believe they would move to the Closed tab. In the past, however, that’s how you would sweep all the matches to your Closed tab.

Oh, and to re-open your account, you don’t have to contact us anymore, either. You can just go to the eHarmony home page and log in as if your account was open, and it will guide you through re-opening your account. It’s actually really easy.

Try it (if you don’t mind closing all your matches) and let us know what happens!

OK, so if I'm currently a subscriber I CAN close my matches, but when my subscription runs out I CANNOT close them? Hmmm, interesting concept.

Oh, whoops – let me clarify, Andieisme!

I meant that of course you can close your matches one by one at anytime. You can close your matches one by one as a non-paying member. As a non-paying member, however, you can also close them in mass.

Kate - A couple last questions. If you have an active subscription, can you still do the close/open account thing? Your subscription will reactivate as well when you reopen the account? Or, should only only do the mass close if you don't have an active subscription?

And, I assume that I can go back in and "reopen" selected matches if I resubscribe (it appears that I can't do it now) without their knowing that I had just closed them as long as they haven't yet closed the match at their end?

I'm not quite ready to try this, but I'll let you know if/when I do!

I do think having the ability to mass close would be a big increase in functionality. I have open matches that haven't bothered to respond in ages and going through those one by one to close is onerous and not worth the effort.

Hi Neardc -

You could close your account as a subscriber, but when you re-open online, you would see your account as "expired". It's unforunately not always possible to get the subscription to reactivate, so it's not really advisable to do it while you're subscribed. Also, it interrupts the service and could confuse the matches.

But yes -- if they don't know you closed the match, you could re-open the matches who closed because of the mass-closure! And, if you're really interested in some that closed, you could also contact Customer Care on that front.

Take your time on rejoining...there's no pressure here.

You're not the only one who's brought this up, MicMan. At this point, there are no plans in the works to do the batch-closes, but I can see why that would be nice. The only thing that comes close is the thing I mentioned before -- the auto-archive. But that depends on matches taking the action to close you.
