It kind of gives you a way to organize your matches. Say for example you have six matches: two you are definitely interested in, two you aren't sure about, and two you really aren't interested in at all. You would keep the two you're interested in under your matches tab, you would move the two you might be interested in to your archived tab (you still get updates on the match if they upload pics or change their profile), and you would close the other two.

Make sense?
The problem is... there is NO close match option, anywhere anymore. I have looked all over, it only says "archive this match". I have 5 I want to close and I can't.

You have to archive them first, then once in the archive folder, you will have the option to close out for good.

I know it's an extra step, that is a pita imo

To make this understood and save time for us all... can someone just post, in a new thread, with EXACT instructions for this Archive Feature? I've had to go through 8 pages of back and forth. I'm seeing too many conflicting answers and ones that just make no sense referring back to older times, which I know nothing about (I'm three days in and now totally confused).

How to Archive and what it means. How to close someone only. Etc... Since both features are different now.

Pretty Please????

Thank you Trek... but why is there an Archive? What does it do? Also, when I just closed a match, there was no option to say why I closed him. Where did that go?

This is all new for us too, even us old timers.
This thread is mostly going to be about what we all discover about the "feature" as we come across it.

I am very *very* VERY *VERY* disappointed in EHarmony, that they did not explain these changes, have no FAQs about them, nothing!

If there was EVER a time where FAQs, documentation, etc would be VERY helpful to EHarmony's members, this would be the time.

Where are they???

Now, I have a secret, gleeful hope that the reason there aren't any, because EHarmony's Customer Service line/email is completely jammed up with people very unhappy about the change.

Anyway,

I imagine that the EHA hosts, Kate, Renee, etc, will eventually post an FAQ type of article that explains exactly what all these changes do and mean.
Until then, I am afraid you are stuck with this thread.

I am not exactly sure the reason behind the idea of the archive. The idea eH states on the site. It helps you focus on the new and communicating matches. But see my post #44 in this thread, that is my take on it.

The close reasons and send final message features are gone..

Wait, does this mean they dont know they are archived? And we dont know it either? In other words they are actually closed but no message is sent out?

This is correct.

If you move someone to Archived, the Match does NOT know you did that. They are never informed.

However, the idea is that no one should view Archived as Closed.

It is going to be a place where you put your backup to your backup to your backup Matches.

This is why renaming the "Archived" tab as the "Purgatory" tab is actually a very good idea.

BTW, I don't think you can Archive a Match that has started communication with you, (or vice versa).
I think you only have the option to Close.
If this is true, then most of us who generally Initiate or Close right away probably won't really see any change at all with the new tab.

Here is what eH says from the site:

To help you manage your matches, we will automatically move any matches who close you from the "New" and "Communicating" tabs to the "Archived" tab
So far this is what I got..

If I closed a match... in my closed folder it reads re-open match.. I assume until that match closes me, I am in their archive folder.

So until then I can reconsider my decision. I'm not sure what our matches(or we) see in the archive folders. (although scottk or cal_dude may have mentioned being able to see re-open, not sure though)

Matches that read match is closed = both parties have closed each other. Which you can see the time stamp of when you both closed each other in the E-harmony mail box..

Also as ScottK mentioned in earlier in this thread This atleast is a sign that this match is active.

I dont find it such a bad idea at all.
I just went to my EH page and found it blank. I wanted to give it a try with the archive thing. I will wait some time and see if they were just working in my area.

So, another thought. If someone who is in your archive folder sends communications and you dont want to communicate. Then you would have the option to close em?
