Just curious- If you click on "re-open match", will it immediately re-open, or do you get to choose a comment or ice breaker type thing?

Also, is it possible to get re-matched with someone if you've started all over and filled out a new questionnaire, etc

And.....why is there even the option to re-open a match at all when some are permanently closed.... those of which were not originally closed out on you?

If you close a match and they send you a Final Message then you will have a Re-Open button next to their name. When you click on the Re-Open button the match will be re-opened immediately.

The reason for being able to re-open a match is, as an example, you closed them because they had no photo. They add a photo after you had closed them but since they now have a photo you think they are hot and now wish to communicate with them.

If you have the same profile but have re-taken the Questionnaire you will not be re-matched with a previous match. However, if you have completely canceled your profile and had eHarmony remove it from the site then later create a new profile and take the Personality Profile Questionnaire again you may be matched with previous matches.

you can 're-open' matches that YOU closed (if my memory serves) and yes there is comments to choose from (no fill in the blanks) and they can choose to reopen you.

Yes, you can be rematched with the same people if you start over. I know from experience

Since being on eH on and off since '03, I was recently re-matched with a gal from quite a fews years ago. Her name is unique to say the least, and very easy to remember. I haven't re-taken the Questionaire, but don't know about her. She seemed nice enough but worked a schedule that was not compatible with my vision of a relationship. I think I closed her, but really can't remember who did what at the end.

Oh, and the funny thing is I thought I had completely canceled my account. That was my intention, but when I went to re-join, guess what...surprise surprise, eH still had my old profile and credit card info. That did NOT make me happy. How do you totally cancel? It seems like they want to keep you hooked.

Well, this is slightly incorrect...

You can NEVER reopen Matches that you have Closed, unless the person you Closed, sends back a Reopen request.

To the OP:
This is why it is very important that you don't Close Matches unless you are absolutely certain you don't have any interest in them, and will never have interest in them...
Because you will find that Matches you have deemed "a better fit" and are more interested in, can and do up and "poof" on you, and you might end up regretting being so hasty in Closing some of those "maybe" Matches.

This is true.
I believe even when you purposely go and cancel, they will store your old Profile and more importantly, they store the list of members they have sent to you.

Part of this is for system reasons.

They obviously do not want people canceling, and resigning up, and getting the same Matches they had before.
This would lead to confusion and awkwardness, especially if you had a couple bad Matches where things didn't end well.

But like cp30 suggests, you CAN call EHarmony up, and get completely purged from the system, Profile, Matches, History and all.
In that case, if you do sign up again in the future, you can and will get matched up again with a lot of the same people.

Now, it does surprise me they still had your CC number on file.
I would have expected that when Closing/cancelling your account, they would have purged that information.
By them not doing that, well, that isn't proper behavior for a online vendor...

Oh, I've NEVER closed a "maybe" match. I was just wondering why sometimes you are given the option to re-open and sometimes not.

And thanks. That all does make sense. As far as still having my cc# on file, I agree that was not proper. At least that particular card had expired. If I merely decide to take a break from eH, I do not want them to have my cc on file until/unless I choose to come back.
