The matching is certainly not random. But have you also noticed that the matching program goes through the mood swings? Initially, I got a variety of matches, some good, some not so good. Later, I got a couple of weeks of worse matches (little overlap in values, etc.). I still communicated with them, as I like to give most a chance, and many of them replied. Afterwards, my matches have improved for a couple of weeks, and I thought Wow. But not so fast. now I'm in a period of worse matches who also communicate less (although filled profiles).
Anybody else have noticed "the mood swings"? How long do they last? Other observations?

Yeah.. I've noticed this too. It's seems when to occur when I renew. I'll receive great matches for a week or so. Then after that the flexible matches start to get filtered in my dailies.

I don't believe this has to do with the matching program itself. It has more to do with the total amount of exact matches in your dating pool..

So within the first week, I might receive matches that are a 100% compatiable and it decreases from there. I have a hard time believing that all non-flexible matches are an 100% exact compatiable match.

A good explanation. It can explain variations in match quality by periods of good matches joining my "pool." So the solution is either to wait for more good matches to join, or to retake the test and be placed in a new matching pool? Is this a season when less good matches are showing up for others a well?

It can't hurt.. Honestly I don't know how much has changed on my views. If a long-time member hasn't retaken the test in over a year then why wouldn't you.

I can only speak for myself, when it comes to seasonality. Since I reside in the Northeast. I find less people explore e-dating in the summer months, but then again that probably holds true everywhere.

The ones who who join in the summer, are people who just got out of a relationships. They had a huge fight at a picnic over hotdogs and potato salad!. e-dating is a quick way for a rebound (j/k)

When there's an EH ad campaign in your area more new people sign up and you get more matches and fewer of them are "flex". I think.

What You Can Do To Help: talk up EH among your friends. They will talk to theirs. Someone will hear and will join. You will get matched and fall in love!

I never considered that it was "mood swings" but every now and then I do notice that I have gotten a number of matches that quite similar in a particular area. Like the time that I got a bunch of matches that were involved in the arts is some way. Or late last year when I got a bunch that were very religious. But mostly I don't have this sort of thing happen. The number of matches that I get is cyclical and at the moment I am on a down cycle of few or no matches each day.

Regarding Flexible Matches, I will say it again. All your matches meet the 29 Dimensions, this would mean that based on the values that the eHarmony system considers to be relevant for a successful long term relationship you do match.
