I've noticed that the majority of the matches eH has sent me are engineers (around 70%). I wonder if there are just a lot of engineers on eH in general or if it has something to do with my answers to eH's questionnaire? I've met some of them in real life, but the one's I've met have been shy or quiet.
I'm curious if that's been the case with other women using eH? Are most of your matches engineers?

Most of my matches were engineers, in IT, or had numbers-oriented careers - apparently I matched up best in the eH system with people who are linear thinkers or who have that technical bent.

The ones I really felt were attractive, though, were less technical in their careers: I liked the librarian, the biologist, and the lawyer-turned-entrepreneur most of all.

Hi Saintetienne,

That is a good question – one that various people ask about various careers that they see frequently. I have heard some members say that got a lot of military matches, or a lot of teachers, or a lot of nurses, or a lot of artists as well. There’s also been discussion about this kind of phenomenon on the discussion boards, too.

It is sort of speculation, because there could be factors like demographics involved, but it may very well be that based on the results of your Relationship Questionnaire, your matches have personality traits that lend themselves to the profession of engineer.

Although your experience so far seems to reinforce that they are all shy and quiet, keep communicating – it’s my understanding that engineers aren’t all exactly alike.

All the best,

~Kate

Hi Saintetienne!

I got a few engineers but many other things too. How interesting that is happening with you.

I was an engineer ... perhaps your experience is a statistical anomaly? Sorry, can't help myself.

I have known many engineers, and their personalities run the gamut. They do tend to share organized and analytical thinking plus attention to detail, but otherwise vary a lot.

Have fun with those guys!

It has to be how you answered the questions.

What percentage of the male population are engineers? It can't be that high.

I get quite a few engineers and IT guys as matches.... and they can send me all of those they want! I find engineers and other 'nerdy' professions to be fascinating!

Since you are matched based on how you answered the questions on the Personality Profile Questionnaire. The Questionnaire determines certain personality traits that you have, the 29 Dimensions. The eHarmony matching system matches your personality to people with personalities that are most compatible to yours. You will likely get a high percentage of matches from certain professions.

As an engineer myself, I am quiet, shy careful and reserved. However, most of my engineer friends are party animals, several played in rock bands and are quite socially outgoing.

I am an engineer and I do fit the profile of being very good with numbers and details, but I'm not quiet or all that shy.

I'm not going to a dance club, but aside from that, I speak up, and love to joke and laugh.

I'm 30 if anyone wants to PM me. lol

I will say, that I get a LOT of matches who are teachers. I wondered why there are so many single teachers. Maybe its my match criteria, and not an abundance of teachers on eH.

The bigger question is why do you even care what job they have? Are you actually using it as a means to eliminate potential partners?
