I am impressed with the tile ads in eHarmony. When I click on the photos of my matches the tile stays on top of them as well. Can't really see what someone looks like when half of their photo is covered with a BabysRUs ad.

The ads also do their little expansion thing and won't close.

Use FireFox and grab the plugin called "Ad Block Plus".

ABP will block out all known advertising links, so you will find that not only are there no popups, but there are no ads on the side of your browser either.

I highly recommend it, and as usual, it is free.

Also, they slow down the system a bit; I use plug-ins (such as Flashblock) to filter some of them on my older of the 2 machines.

I'm using FF. I didn't know they had a plugin for that. That would be awesome! Thanks Scott.

Hmm, I've downloaded the plug in, it says it needs to restart. I do that and it still says it needs to restart. Do I need to reboot my system?

You should just need to restart the browser.
Bail out of all your FireFox sessions, and see if it triggers.
You should see a "stop sign" at the top right of your browser with "ABP" in it.
If you see that, its running.

If you click on it, you will see all the various things that your current Page tried to grab. Text/links in red are blocked, Text/links in black are allowed through.

You will notice a vast improvement in the speed of your browser too, because all the slow pokey ad sites are simply blocked.

I don't normally use Firefox, I use MSN premium for instant email access etc, however, I could not sign in to tonight so went to Firefox when I read this!

Downloaded it and it works like a charm! If only other browsers did this! Thanks for the tip!

For the Mac users that are using Safari, I've found PithHelmet to do a great job blocking ads too.

Yeah I've been using FF & ABP for some time now.

I am a Supermoderator on a niche sport forum powered by VBulletin and the admin on our site's owners side changed the ad format making them way too large and squishing the forums making reading strange and at times difficult. Almost all the mod staff immediately enabled ABP for that site but pointed out if we were doing it, surely a lot of the regular members of the site would be too which of course defeats the purpose of ad revenue. Currently the forums are going through a redesign and one of the first things changed was ad location and size...and the regular members still complained...
