Okay..so I know I'm new to eHarmony and I'm still learning. I have also visited other online dating sites and I perfer eHarmony. However, I think eHarmony should some how let their paying members know if their match is not a paying match. You receive a match that you want to communicate with and they don't respond because of this reason. You're waiting for a reply and waiting and waiting. I think we should be given some kinda perks because we are paying for the eHarmony services. Not cheap after a while. Is there a way we can know if a match is not a paying match? Time is very important and waiting for a week or 2 to heard from a match is not good.

This is the most frequently voiced gripe about eH, and it is a nearly universal complaint. If you scroll through the threads on this forum, you'll see quite a few that have to do with this issue.

eH's business model is that people will join up as they see their matches, or as a paying match attempts to communicate with them. That part isn't really such a problem; the problem is that so many of the matches are inactive and never even bother to view their matches. It used to be that if you were a nonpaying member you wouldn't receive any more matches until you had viewed the matches in your inbox (and then you would only receive a max of 10 or so until you viewed the next batch of matches). Now, it appears that you will continue to receive matches for as long as you leave matching "on." I have no idea if eH is reconsidering how they deal with inactive/nonpaying members, but they are certainly aware that it is a cause of much unhappiness among their paying members.

That being said, the fact that someone is a paying member is certainly no guarantee that he or she will respond; it just makes it possible for them to respond if they so wish.

I agree with neardc.

And yet...

Recently when my paid subscription ran out and before I re-signed just the next day, I had been given no new matches overnight and only had four total - all viewed, I got the notification:

You've reached your match limit.

Why that's not done to long inactive people, I have no idea.

It is done to inactive people. The problem I think is that it doesn't mean squat. I remember when I was inactive that I would get that message. I still though got matches though afterwards.

I understand that time is important to you and is equally important to me. However, once I have sent First Questions to a match then it requires no more of my time until they respond. If waiting for a match is such a burden on your time you may want to revisit the whole concept of dating. Going through the first two stages of the Guided Communication process will only require a minute of your time but as you have to write your own answers to the Second Questions, write e-mails in Open Communication, and then actually go on dates this is going to require a significant amount of time.

I have dozens of matches that are paying members at various stages in the process including Open Communication who have quit responding. It is not just the non-paying members that don't respond.

It appears to still be that way, neardc.

I've lost so much money to the system that I've decided it's going to take a really wonderful thing before I pay anymore money.

Consequently, this message displays on my home page.

You have reached your match limit. View your existing matches to receive more.

It seems to be always there... Which is fine. I send smiles to the matches that look remotely interesting - and I'm pretty sure I continue to get new matches, though I don't pay much attention to when they arrive and at what rate...

Incidentally, because I know what an irritation this issue of paying/non-paying is for many, I'd made a note in the last field of my profile that I was a non-paying member but was actively watching my matches.
It's not there now, but I'd gladly put it back in if it would help people to understand why they only get an ice breaker from me... However, would you close out a match if you KNEW he or she was non-paying just because of that fact?

I'll pay when it's worth it, but it just seems that so much rubbish ends up in my match list that it is simply NOT worth it.

Very frustrating all the way around.

ETA: interesting... that's an active link!!

And this message is totally meaningless. It's got to be a remnant of how the system used to be. I was inactive for over 2 years, and I would log in approximately monthly and observe that I was still being matched. I would go months at a time without viewing any matches but I still was matched hundreds of times, to the degree that I think I finally exhausted the supply of active, inactive, and "flexible" matches that I could be matched to. Now that I'm active again (they gave me a free month after mistakenly closing my account), I can see that the well is totally dry.

Its definitely a universal complain amongts eharmony users. However, EH seems to completely ignore and well, do nothing about it but continue promoting and taking people's hard worked money. I haven't been a member in a very long time and will not recommend the site to anyone for this main reason. In fact, I have a friend who told me she was considering joining EH, and of course, I gave her my two cents. There goes another customer. dun .. dun .. dun.

Exactly. It was true when I first joined as a non-paying member, and until a few weeks ago, I believed that it was in fact still true. However, after reading the claim here that it was not, I recently did a little test on my account (which was on non-paying/no matches status after my most recent subscription ended) and found that when I turned matching back on I continued to receive matches even if I didn't view the current matches -- or even sign into my account.

I was surprised, but it turned out that the people saying that the statement is meaningless are apparently correct.
