I occasionally get matches which have this information.

One that confuses and/or annoys me is

wrote :

Like you, xxx...
  • says her apartment is generally Clean and orderly
Where is this advice coming from? Was there a question in my account setup that asked about my housing arrangement? I don't remember one, and I haven't lived in an apartment in over 20 years. Is this telling me that the match lives in an apartment?

Or maybe this new "feature" was coded by an unsupervised college intern who just assumed that all eH users live in apartments. Has anyone seen "xxx says her house is clean and orderly"?

When you created a new account, during the first couple of days the system takes a couple of moments to ask you other questions, such as listing your favorite shows, what type of humor you have, how you spend your money, etc...

The use of the word "apartment" is probably meant to be interchangeable with "house" or "trailer" or wherever you live.

Yes as kneo24 said. It was a new feature that was added a few months ago. As I have been on eHarmony just way too long I can't what happens when you create a new account but when it was first added when I would log in on several different occasions I would have a window pop up that asked several different questions each time. This was one of them and there are other choices than clean and orderly that you could choose. You also had the option to decline answering the questions.

I thought that the way the feature worked was that if your match had answered a question the same way that you had then that would show up in the list of things to talk about.

FYI I have never lived in an apartment.

And have you ever seen matches that say "house" instead of apartment?

I don't remember being asked whether I live in a house or an apt. or a double-wide or a van down by the river. But maybe new subscribers do get asked. I just don't know.

I can guarantee you that this coder is supervised.

Furthermore, the new feature was also reviewed by a QA engineer, who I can guarantee you is also supervised.

No, the generic question is "apartment". It seems that a more appropriate word would have been "home" as that would not indicate what type of dwelling you live in. Home would still fit for the van that you live in by the river or the cardboard box I live in under the interstate overpass

I would go for "residence" as the best alternative, and while I do remember this question, I don't recall whether it asked for "apartment," "house" or something else. Haven't seen it come up on any of their "something to talk about" lists, though.

The question just says "apartment". There's no selection. I just view the word "apartment" in this context being interchangeable with whatever your choice of residence is.

Hi Everyone,

When you’re filling out this question, the wording is actually “home”, but it comes across on the other side as “apartment”.

Thanks for bringing this discrepancy to our attention, Melman. The issue has been forwarded to the proper department and is now under review -- it should to be edited to something more universal in the near future.

All the best,

~Kate
