You can't move your sliders and hit "Find New Matches" right away. Actually I'm not really sure why "Find New Matches" even exists. As far as I know, your new matches are set up during the night when Dr. eH's Magic Computer runs its database search.
I have on occasion used the Find New Matches button and get new matches. It is true that the big database matching search is run during the wee hours of the morning and most of your matches show up in your inbox very early in the morning.

Mine seem to be showing up in my Junk Box. Coincidence?

LA should have lots of bright educated people but unfortunately they are demographically dwarfed by the influx of wannabees with "their/there/they're" insane focus on surface attributes and equally inane fascination with all things Hollywood, skewed by the media focus on celebrity as a professional goal. I feel for you.
If you think that's bad, you should see Vegas. If you don't flash cash or silicone, you might as well be invisible.

Argh!

Argh indeed. I think I will go back to my original approach: set my degree to what it really is, but put education low-importance. I don't care about degrees, I do care about intelligence. I changed it because I was tired of closing out obvious unsuitable matches. But now I'm tired of not getting matches!

I tried changing my educational setting to "low" importance, but the results were so dismaying that I turned it right back up. I don't have anything against these guys, but really, I am not interested in going out with a store clerk who "doesn't read books or magazines," or a truck driver who spends his leisure time "watching football and sleeping."

Sass, Melman is correct. Give it some time for the EH algorithms to re-run.

If all the bright educated people are dwarfed, perhaps you should relax the strength of your height matching preference
