There are some second questions that I just loathe getting because they are so different than the way I think. (For instance, I don't buy into three wishes or the idea of wanting to do things with no consequences.) But there is one I love to get. I've posted this before, but that was over a year ago, so many people here never saw it and others probably forgot it.

Some people love this response, some say it's too over the top. I say, as a writer, it's my job to pull people in and, if I'm asked why I like something, to paint a clear picture of why I like it.

The exact eH question is, "Describe an interest you have that you would truly hope your partner could share with you."'

My answer is:

Ballroom dancing. Definitely. I know a great dancer who's husband won't even try it. He knows she's good, but he'll never know what a thrill it can be to tango with his wife and lead her into a promenade with a double-underarm turn. Honestly, it's easy to learn (I'm 101% klutz and I learned!) and I've always wished I could be out on the dance floor with a girlfriend when that tango music started and we took each other in a cat-like stance and started tiger-stalking across the dance floor, me pursuing as she backs away, both of us looking aloof, pretending not to care, but sliding, stealthily gliding over the floor as we reach a corner, snap our heads to one side, and move, side by side, in unison, into a promenade, twirl away from each other, arms flung out as I peer at her, eyes burning, ready to pounce, then slide past her as we circle each other and swing back together into that catlike stance, with me once again stalking her as she seems to try (but not to hard!) to slip away.

Some might say it goes too far, but I have yet to have a match close me out after I give this as an answer to that question, so it seems to work.

I used to pick this question until I realized everyone started mentioning some activity that was already in their profile. I do think it's a great question if the persons profile is light on details, but otherwise a wasted question if the profile has items filled in.

I do feel your frustration over other questions though. The ones you named get on my nerves. The other one that gets on my nerves is "Life is about simple pleasures. What is your simplest pleasure?" I'm not going to go into a long rant on why I dislike it, not the place for it.

I never had any problems with any of these questions. Since its essay form, you can write whatever you want. I usually ask questions that require someone to put a little thought into it. That is what really shows personality in my opinion, not the actual answers, but how they answer the question.

The reason no one has closed you out because of this is because you are a guy who wants to dance!!! Do you have any idea how rare that is?

Heck, if I got an answer like that I'd go out with you even if I didn't think we'd be a good match, just to have the chance to go out dancing!

I don't ask that question, but I have been asked it. I usually answer that I'd like someone to go to concerts with me. It is amazing to me how many guys don't like to go to big shows... they don't like lines, they don't like crowds, they don't like the volume, they don't like the traffic... a million excuses. I love to go to concerts and would like to be able to go with someone special. I go anyway, either by myself or with my daughter or a friend... but it would sure be nice to make it a big night out sort of date!

I tried responding earlier, but I use Firefox on an iMac and it seems there are some bugs right now with this forum. When I try to respond or post in Firefox, I get an error -- no data in my post!

Interestingly enough, I just got that one from this same match. I don't have an issue with this one, other than the fact that it tries to limit it to just one. Many of my pleasures are simple. I sent the answers back. On other steps she's responded quickly, but I know it sometimes takes me a day or so on the second questions. Some people like to think about them.

I write screenplays. I'm working on starting a film production company that will produce the scripts I write. Just today I finished the first of the scripts I'm preparing for this company. It's called Dreaming of Atlantis. But that's just the rough draft, I still have a lot of editing to do!

What's weird is the reactions I get as a ballroom dancer. If it's nothing to do with dating, almost anywhere I bring that up, I get a TON of questions, including about the competitions. But I've learned to be VERY careful mentioning it to a potential date!

Women seem to want to dance SYB or FiB, but are scared of ballroom. (SYB = Shake Your Booty, FiB = Frog in Blender) Seriously, I've met women, talked, and when they found I like to dance, they asked me where I go and once I say I go to a ballroom studio, they actually change their body language to show they're less available and say, "I could never do that!" The first two times things were great until we got to this. Then I said, "Oh, it's easy! I'm a complete klutz. I was the kid who could never hit the ball with the bat or catch a ball and I compete."

Well, that ends it right there. In those two cases, once I said I compete, they literally stepped back from me, saying, "I could NEVER do that!" I am positive that one thing cost me dates with two different women. Nobody I might date finds out I compete until I'm sure it won't freak her out.

Heck, if I got an answer like that I'd go out with you even if I didn't think we'd be a good match, just to have the chance to go out dancing!
I could definitely show you a good time -- and if you're local, you'd meet other guys who like to dance and I could show you the good places to learn and go for dance parties. One thing I've practiced a lot is being able to lead a beginner so she can have fun dancing and even do some neat moves that will leave her amazed she did that!

I don't ask that question, but I have been asked it. I usually answer that I'd like someone to go to concerts with me. It is amazing to me how many guys don't like to go to big shows... they don't like lines, they don't like crowds, they don't like the volume, they don't like the traffic... a million excuses. I know in my case I don't do many big shows or anything because most of the time I'd be going alone. Then the long lines are boring, but if I have someone with me, then it's no problem. But I'm more for classical music concerts or jazz than rock, which most people want. I do like older rock, though.

I agree with Dafearon, it is an essay question so you can create an answer that fits your views.

Of course I write in my own questions for the Second Questions. Since most are multi-part a few matches feel that I am asking more than the three questions that I am supposed to but most answer my questions.

I can't even remember what happened the last time I got to 2nd questions. I am not having a good eH experience lately (getting towards the end of the 4th week).

I'd happily answer any 2nd question anyone would send me, at this point!

I used to take ballroom dancing classes in my teens. You're right that people find it intimidating and also right that the technique is not difficult to learn. I liked Latin American best, though I have not danced in years.

Wonderwoman is right - very few men appear to enjoy dancing. Both my parents dance ballroom (not so much the Latin American - lol) and several times I've noticed other women eyeing my Mum wistfully when my Dad whisks her out to the dance floor and proceeds to actually dance with skill!
