I contacted eH today about flexible matching. I hate it. I get plenty of matches without flexible matching, but then I'll get 8-10 more that are flexible matches. I don't want to get flexible matches. eH has no mechanism to turn off flexible matches. Is anyone else interested in having eH install an option to opt out of flexible matching if you are sure of what you want and how far you're willing to travel? I'd rather get 10 matches a week that meet my criteria than 40 matches, 30 of which just clog my inbox and probably aren't even paying members.

Yep - I never initiated communication with one flexible match.

Personally I like the flexible matching. I get so few matches already that if not for flexible matching I probably would get none at all. I have my settings open to 120 miles, which includes one major city, and I still only get 2-3 a week. I expect if flexible matching were turned off that would drop down to maybe 2-3 a month.

At some point your regular matches will dry up and those flexible matches won't look so bad any more.

I know this is cliche, but you never know who might float your boat. Plus it's fairly simple to just close them after a quick glance.

Probably most of the matches that I have met were Flexible Matches.

Nine of those 10 matches that you think meet your criteria will be non-paying matches

If you set all of your Importance settings to the most Very Important setting then you should not get any matches that would be available for that setting.

The real problem with Flexible Matches is that you do not know what setting they are flexible on.

For example I will not accept a smoker, period. However, while I rarely ever drink alcohol if my match prefers to have a glass of wine with dinner then that really is not a problem to me. I am capable of observing how much she drinks and determine if it is too much for me to accept.

With my settings the way I have them I have NEVER gotten matched to a smoker (of course I don't know unless I ask if they ever smoked) but I do get Flexible Matches and suspect that the flexible part may be that they like to have a glass of wine with dinner.

That's great you were able to proceed to dates with Flexible Matches. I just found the ones I received had deal breakers or poorly filled in profiles.
