Well.........I'm begining to think that I don't know why I joined again. LOL The first time around it wasn't a good experience at all for me. Lots of matches, just no one to communicate with and when I did communicate on the next to the last day of my subscription with someone, he wasn't who he said he was.........which I found out over time (three to four months later.....I know I should have listened to family members).
So, here I am again and as far as I'm concerned, it is still a lot of money (which is what I thought the first time around for the type of experience I had) and things seem to still be the same as far as the communicating process. I understand there will be a lot of matches that won't be interested in me and me in them, but to only get to open communication with one of them pretty much the entire year's subscription? That is just not a good thing for the cost of just under $300/year.
And from I've learned just a short time being on these boards, most of my matches are not even paying members and will never be able to communicate unless they join. Never knew that before. Makes me think I've made even a bigger mistake by joining again.
Sorry to sound so negative, but I have not had a positive experience the first time around and this time around seems to be headed in the same direction.
Also, I changed my settings around as far as distance and age and it just seems to me that I would have gotten a lot more matches than just two from the changes that I made (the whole world as opposed to 300 miles LOL). I get the feeling sometimes that eHarmony does not send all the matches that they can and just when you're subscription is up, you receive matches.......
I meet a lot of singles in my work place and have been approached number of times, but I have strong convictions agains dating co-workers and/or their family members.
Over the summer some of my co-workers (even in management) shared their success stories with online dating sites and so I decided to give a try. I subscribed for 1 year to give this site a fair chance to match me with someone special. If there will be no success for me within a year, I will renew it for one more year and just go from there.
I joined in a weak moment but only for a month. I did meet someone who was perfect -- we were so alike -- but I don't want to date myself!!! lol He is now just a good friend. A month was long enough for me to figure out eH was not for me.
A year seems a bit long -- plus another year if you're not successful?? I've heard lots of successes but don't think I could handle a year or 2 of the communicate process.
I'd joined a few years back and spent about one and a half years as a paid member, hoping to find a nice man to date and hopefully grow into a serious romantic relationship. I had several matches, out of those, I only communicated by phone with two of them and neither one lead to a date. I got tired of spending my money and not get any returns so I discontinued my membership. Fast forward two years and I joined again, but as a non-paying member. None of the matches that I have recieved have been anything interesting. I took a long look at my lifestyle and realized that I had become less socially active over the years. Once I began to make an effort to get out and do interesting things after work or on the weekends, I met several dateable men. I don't plan on forking over any of my hard earned money to EH, but I do like hanging out on the advice boards every so often.

Reason: clarification
I have been out of the dating scene(my choice) for 10 years & am now looking for my mate. Have never used on-line dating B4 & have had friends find their #1 here. I am opening my heart(cautiously) with with positive vibes. I've fastened my seat belt & am ready for the ride.....hopefully smooth.
Chefertiti, I am like you in one aspect. I pretty much don't expect to renew my subscription. Why throw more money out when I have had dismal returns during my paid time. I will likely stay on eH as a non-paying member and use the FCW as they come around. But too tell the truth I just don't see the reason behind shelling out more money and not seeing a return in my investment.
I came to eHarmony because I'm not getting any younger, and the circles I walk in have introduced me to relatively few available females and pretty much none who are close to being my type.
And being a non-drinker/coffee hater who dislikes clubs, bars and social dating has not helped either.
I will be holding onto my membership money until they match me with someone interesting-looking enough to make me let go of it. After four weeks, they're 0-8.

It's important to understand the way a site works. Rigidly assuming / insisting that eH works likes all the others you're used to isn't utilizing the site functions to your best advantage.

Do you have something completely stupid to talk about? Come here. Talk. It's a simple two step process. Please have a good sense of humor about all this. It is good for the heart.
