I see eHarmony is now offering some kind of Profile Advisor service for $99.95 that basically sounds like they'll have a "professional writer" write your profile for you "in as little as 3 days".

I'd really prefer people write their own profiles.

Maybe next they can offer a service to respond to guided communication questions as well.

There is a free Profile Adviser service right here on the Advice boards.

Post your profile here and we will rip it to shreds

E-harmony must have done market research and decided that this is something customers wanted and would pay for. I have seen some very dreadful profiles.

I've searched for this service, but can't find it. Can you point me in the right direction?

There are many "please look at my profile" threads right here in this very forum.

I have to agree that I would rather people write their own profiles in general. A lot can be learned about a person by how they write, their word use, and over all style. I wouldn't want to view a profile like the example that was given, thinking that the professional done one was the person I was hoping to talk too, then find out that in truth they are unable to spell "photography" or be bother to look it up.

I believe that the free profile advisor is when you post your profile in the discussion boards as a new thread. Others then look your profile over and offer suggestions as to what changes you can make.

In many ways the same end result, but for some reason I would find it to be less...cheating? Also it saves you a cool hundred dollars.

As have I.

However, I actually LIKE the fact that we get the dreadful Profiles, in all their glory.

If someone can't be bothered enough to spend a few minutes writing and proof-reading their Profile, then I feel this is a good thing to learn about the person.

Some people will care, some people won't. But its good information to know.

That being said, I can't believe they will get many people to sign up for it anyway.

With people complaining that $20 a month is too much for a Subscription to EH, and having so many "dead" Profiles of people that are non-paying members, I can't imagine them jumping at the chance to pay $100 for a ghost writer, to do something that they could do themselves in an hour or two.
If the cost was something more realistic, say $20, I could see some going for it. But $100? No way.

I have read on many profiles that say they are not good at writing about themselves and to please forgive them. I guess this would be worth it to them.

It's probably a very good idea. I could re-write many of the profiles on here myself and make them much better without even knowing any more about the person than what he presented.

Think about it. Some people can market themselves well, others need to learn. Those who can market themselves well meet people easier in the real world than those who cannot. Those who cannot might try online dating (not everyone on here falls into that category, but about 90% that I have seen, do).
