The real irony is that a lot of people only think they know what they want, which is largely influenced by popular media.

Also, while some people see themselves as thin while they are not, most others actually overestimate how heavy they are, based on what we see all around them.

I've heard the "healthy" argument way too many times here... the simple fact of the matter is - size "0" that every woman is conditioned to strive for these days, is simply not healthy for a vast majority of women. Not to mention that every person "wears" their weight differently and in different areas of the body.

In my view -
Read the profile, look at the photos and see if you are attracted (if it's even possible to be attracted to a picture), without putting the person under the microscope of height, weight, hair. Look at the overall image and feel. I would not recommend composing appearance related lists - it's not going to help much, really.

I can honesty say that the only man I was in love with in 36 years of my life looked absolutely nothing like my "type". If I received his photo alone from a dating site, I would not even look twice. But I'm pretty sure I'd like what would be written in his profile...

HA! I have thought, in the past, that some of my matches had their real life bodies and lives confused with their World of Warcraft bodies and lives, and the "couch glider with xbox controllers" sounds just about right...

I agree! I don't think you can trust photos, really. I have a couple of favorite actors who-- I'm sorry-- are "not traditionally handsome" and who usually look awful in photos. But when you see them in films or on tv, and see how they talk and move and get something of a sense of their personality-- GORGEOUS. And I've known co-workers and a college professor like that, too, once. Some people are not much to look at but have a wonderful sense of humor or an adorable personality or somehow, in person, actually seem SEXY despite their awful nose (or whatever), and you miss that when you judge too quickly. Ugly and horrible CAN come in one package, sure, but so can PRETTY and horrible.

Strong or mild cheese? Red or white wine? Or can we have a little of each?

I agree that eH should make it a choice for to decide if they do or don’t want to date big boned persons. It’s not just a matter of guys who say "no fat chicks", but also those with a fetish for big boned women who don’t want to be matched with small little dancers.

I agree that a sliding scale should be a part of the personal preferences you set in the beginning. I actually have found myself on the opposite end of the physical mismatch. I'm a chunky girl -- conscious of what I eat and my activity levels, but it's honestly not my top priority. It seems, however, that 90% of my matches are athletes, coaches, and bodybuilders. Of course, they're very attractive, but I've taken to not even looking at pics and just automatically closing the match based on how many times they mention their passion for the gym and marathon running. I understand that eH wants us to be open minded about the physical appearance, but I've never heard of a woman who went from a 3 to a 9 in the eyes of a man who was never really into BBWs in the first place.
