Why on Earth does eH send you an email when a match wishes you best of luck after you've closed him out? The subject line of the email is something like "eHarmony match communication received!" When you open it, it says, "At some point, you decided to close John Doe. John has taken this opportunity to send you the following message: "Good luck with your search!" Call me jaded, but I don't need to be notified when a match I've closed on eH wishes me well, and I especially don't need to be notified with an email that implies the communication is far more exciting than it is!

eH, you need a new subject line. Any recommendations, folks?

Good question. For matches that have closed me out, I have almost always responded with "good luck...". I thought that I was at least being a gentleman, but I have NEVER recieved such from matches for which I have myself initiated closure. I wonder if this is a male/female stereotipic behaviour of (for me) current American culture.

It does seem that closures are a negative communication, but they do let us move onward. I do think that an email notifying us of any change in introduction or communication status is appropriate.

Would most ladies prefer just a simple acceptance of closer without a "Good luck.." response? (Replies are welcome... after all, us guys are often clueless.)

I also used to send the "Good Luck " message. I also thought it was just being nice, no hard feelings, etc.

Then I was told they get an eMail implying I want them to reopen, so I stopped doing it.

Now I see from this thread it's more an irritation than anything else. Maybe I'll consider doing it again!

Yuck, I haven't (yet) received an e-mail like that. I think I'd be somewhat put off by that too, so I guess I appreciate my matches not sending anything after a close.

I would only expect something like that if they wanted to re-open, as that's the only time it would make sense to me.

If I've been closed before GC starts, say for the "based on statements in their profile, I'm not interested in this match", I wouldn't bother sending a reply back because I interpret that as they don't want any communication from me. If I'm somewhere along the GC or OC path and that happens, depending on how far along or how well communication was going, I might reply with Good Luck. But again, if they've closed me, I take that to mean they no longer wish to communicate with me, so why would I send anymore communications?

Wow, I actually don't mind getting the email at all.

Is that 2 seconds of your time, opening up the email and reading "Good Luck with your Search", such a waste of your time?

Are you really all that? Are you just too good to have proper manners?

I suppose you don't say Please and Thank You any more either?

Maybe its my Midwest background, but up here, we still do say Please, Thank You, and hold open doors for people, and show respect to people.

Anyway, I digress...

To the topic at hand, all responses on the Closed section get sent back to you, regardless of what the reason they sent back to you
was.

Is this a bug in the system, or intentional? Hard to say.

But its such a minor thing, in comparision to much more important things, (like not knowing if you are getting matched to a non-paying member or not), that it really doesn't matter.

On a sidenote, because all reasons sent back from the Closed section trigger the ReOpen option, it IS a nice way to at least give the person an option to reopen you in the future.

This is a good thing, as when they realize that all the Matches they are chasing, are either non-paying members, or also are chasing much hotter and more beautiful people than them, then maybe they might actually reconsider some of their Perhaps-I-Was-Too-Quick-To Close Matches.

This way you can close them out. One less person to be a match, one more open slot for someone else.

I don't know how many times I have asked Customer Service to see if they can have the good luck phrase removed. It is too ambiguous. I have never asked anyone to re-open me, so I obviously have never used that phrase, but I have had the phrase sent to me. Most of the time it has meant nothing. [In fact, one of the senders closed Me after I re-opened] However there has been times when the sender DID want to re-open the match. Keep that in mind. You should keep in mind also that I started a thread today about whether re-opening a closed match actually led to a date. I have gotten close to 50 views, and not one comment. Hmm.
