What woman is going to swoon over a man who expresses his undying love for world's most selfish game, golf. Can't you give guys advice on avoiding proclimations of the time they will not be spending with you. And, the "World's Greatest Dad" theme is so overplayed on this site. Do you actually advise men to gush about their love for their kids and that nothing (except golf) comes before them? I see so few original postings. It is like men got a guide of what to say and they are sticking to it.

Atmyend, welcome to the discussion boards.

It's obvious that you don't care about golf, and that it doesn't impress you that men talk about fatherhood.

That said, not all men are like this. I don't golf myself. On the flip side, there are a lot of women in online dating who speak of their children in their profiles and during guided/open communication. Do you think that's unacceptable as well?

Whatever it is about men that captures your interest, just close out those men who don't fit your interests and wait for the ones who do.

Best of luck.

Hi Atmyend,

It is normal to not be interested in matches with certain interests or values. The content that members put on the About Me pages functions as an informant about who they are and what they are looking for. Ultimately, it’s a way for their matches to identify whether or not there is potential for a future together. For example, there may be a woman who loves to play golf and proudly states enthusiasm for her role as a mother. This woman might be thrilled to receive such a match.

If you can spot a deal-breaker for you on a match’s About Me page, then as Tbesq mentioned, it’s best to close them and move on to matches who interest you more.

I noticed, however, that you used strong words like “selfish”. This negative character quality may be the real deal-breaker for you, and more crucial to consider when you are looking at your matches than the “surface” details. This is why most of the Must Haves and Can’t Stands are comprised of character traits and values.

Part of what you’re addressing here seems to be the problem of bland, boring, and cliché profiles. We agree with you. Our Customer Care team and we in the eHarmony Advice Community continuously encourage members to create great profiles that will get noticed.

Because people can’t see the whole database of members on eHarmony to compare their profiles to others’, it may not have occurred to them how they could blend in with the “crowd”. That’s why we have started threads where members can post their About Me page answers to get feedback from other members. In each thread, we focus on a specific About Me page answer:
