How long do you wait for a match to respond to your request to communicate before you close the match based on failure to communicate?

Also, how long do you typically give your matches to respond during the stages of communication?

I'm asking because I've had a number of matches who initiated communication with me and were very active during the first two stages. However, it has been a week since I sent them my free-response questions and they have yet to respond.

I'm just curious how long you would wait...

If I initiated communication, I give it a week, maybe two if I'm really intereswted in their profile. I figure if someone is serious, they'll check their acct at least once a week. Otherwise, they're either nonsunscribers who can't communicate back, or already pursuing other relationships, or just not interested and don't wish to offend me by closing the match.

If the other person initiates and I'm interested, I let it stay open longer-3 weeks or more. This way, I feel I don't close a door on account of being impatient.

Some people deal with open matches one at a time. If that doesn't work out, they move on to the next one. I think it pays to be more patient with people who initiated comm with you - at least you know that they're subscribers who show an interest in you.

No picture = 3 to 7 days from picture request

Me sending first questions = 1 week to 2 weeks depending on my desparation level

Matched with non-attractive (to me) ladies = immediate close

Matched with far away ladies = immediate close

If matches "go slient" at some point in GC or OC = give a reminder a week or so after not hearing anything, then a week or two before I totally right them off and close them

No picture gets a close.

Not otherwise interested in them, they get a close.

I send first questions they get 10 days and then I close.

If they've answered the first questions and then haven't responded for 7 days, I send the nudge, and then on day 8 I close.

I just really don't want to have 100 people or so sitting around in some form of communication. I usually get between 4 and 8 matches a day, and I would say 1/2 seem at least worth talking to. If someone can't respond initially faster than 10 days and can't keep a conversation a little more current than weekly, they're probably not interested in me or don't have the time to date online.

I'm thinking about lowering my lapse in communication time before I close, because 7 days seems like an awfully long time if you're already at least somewhat talking. I suppose if I close someone and they really were interested they can request to re-open, though I doubt many do.

I can't imagine a person who is interested in meeting someone not having time, in a week, to answer five multiple choice questions--or to send a quick email saying--"I am so swamped at work but just wanted to wish you a great week and to let you know I would try to write more on _____." I actually think in open communication three days is enough time. Sometimes when I feel bad for being inpatient I remind myself how I would feel dating someone who isn't even willing to devote 5-10 minutes a week to forming a relationship with me. Then again, I have been on EH and have yet to meet anyone in person...so consider the source. =).

Depends....my experience I have found many people use free weekends and then disapear. I wish the system said these people were active or non members. If they are nonmembers I would likely close them unless I really liked something with them and what they said in their profile.

If you are both members I say give them a week. If its a common travel time like the holidays or summer, then give them two weeks because they may have done that week vacation one week.

When I was a member I had a very light touch on the "X-Out" key. Had one match, my first OPEN Match, with whom I exchanged over 50 open communications. Never did get a regular E-mail address or see a photo of her. Glad for the communications we had~! She was one of my 8 original matches.I married another of my original matches. We left our match OPEN. Guess I am very sentimental kind of guy.

How about never? Actually eventually I do give up and close people but only after I really decide that I'm not interested.
