Best Valentines gifts I've ever revieved.

3. Signed 1st edition Cosmos - by Carl Sagan. (book) This was something that meant a great dealt to me because you would have to really, really know me well to know how much I would appreciate this. A gift that most people wouldn't appreciate, but meant everything to me.

2. Trip to Chicago to see Beck in concert. This was a common interest she and I shared, and meant we got to spend alot of time together in an intimate setting doing something that would make a permanent memory of our time together.

1. ........................... well... I don't want to put to fine a point on it... but in pig latin this one would be called 'sinky kex'. Always a wonderful present.

Can be done for 10-12K max up here in Boston unless you repeatedly fail every test.

A private pilot certificate typically costs $15 - $25 k, depending on the rate at which you progress, and the age of the aircraft.

Today, with the higher cost of fuel, and the market moving toward glass cockpits, even for primary training, I'd expect to spend double that, especially if you have to drag it out. Most people take a lot longer than the FAA states as the minimin, so the typical cost is a lot higher than what flight schools advertise.

Hmm. This guy did it a long, long time ago, but he bought a small plane for 5 grand, had a mechanic check it out for a thousand, and then learned from inexpensive tutors. He sold the plane for 13k afterwards and said that learning to fly turned out to be free.

Is that possible anymore?

My guy doesn't cook. At all. I'm thinking of making 3 different soups/chilis (1 white bean/escarole, 1 bison chili and 1 curry lentil soup) and freezing them into individually portioned containers for his freezer.

I like to cook and I'm a pragmatist. And hey...it's made from the heart!
Fantastic idea ... I think I'll be borrowing this one! V-day is at the start of my boyfriend's busy season at work, and I know he'll appreciate having something handy to heat and eat after a long day.

Last year I went the homemade route and baked cookies. I also loaded a candy jar with chocolate kisses and little paper fortunes, with instructions to open one a day. Each of the fortunes had a positive message or something encouraging to keep him motivated through all of the work he had ahead of him. He really liked that, especially when he was getting discouraged.

beats me...i just pulled figures from a local flight school that are pre-adjusted for "average" students..i.e. taking more hours than FAA minimums.

I'm looking into getting the private license one of these years...adding instrument rating comes with another $7K expenditure.
