Hi,

I guess the title says it all.

Gals, please chime in as well, but I am most interested in what guys would perceive as a memorable birthday gift from a girlfriend.

Is this for your boyfriend's birthday ? Some people go through a lot of planning the "best ever" without asking them or knowing what they would want....Someone's "best ever"..could be someone elses "worst ever"... The best was a weekend getaway..the worst have been surprise parties..

Yep, it's for my boyfriend. The same one we've been talking about lately.

Where did you go on your weekend getaway and what did you do that made it special for you?

I know I should ask him, and I have a good idea about his interests, but it's interesting to get ideas from other people. I get so much sometimes from other people's life experiences. Who knows, maybe one of your ideas will spark a good idea that I use.

I also think that what men think is fun and memorable may not always be what women think is fun and memorable.

I think the key is planning something that he would think is an awesome day, not necessarily something that you would think is an awesome day.

For my boyfriend's 30th, I threw a two day event. Day 1 was laser tag followed by cake and board games at our house. Day 2 was a poker tournament with the guys for which I made/ordered all of his favorite foods. Then the following day we left for a vacation which he already knew about but hadn't had to put any effort into planning (baseball spring training extravaganza). My best friend gave me a hard time because she thought laser tag sounded like a child's party idea. But everyone loved it and my boyfriend was ridiculously happy. That's all that matters

My most memorable birthday was when I was single, but I do remember a woman who I dated only once before my birthday and she snooped to figure out who my favorite singer was and bought me her album and a candle. It's the thought that counts, not the dollar amount behind it.

(My next girlfriend made it a point to "accidentally" dispose of them shortly after moving in. Ptthhh!)

You sound like a cool girlfriend. Laser tag sounds like fun, and the poker tournament was clearly for his enjoyment only and was very sweet of you to plan.

True. I was thinking about cooking his favorite meal, taking him to see a comedy show, and then giving him a massage and a facial and then going to the bedroom for some fun.

Fun.

Parakeet, your idea sounds interesting.
Guys usually like food, drink and sex. If they're into a particular kind of sport or other activity, they might like that too.
I'd ask the guy, but you know him.

For my ex's last bday with me he got gifts "of the senses". I bought him gifts that were very personalized and intended to respond towards all the senses, sight, sound, touch, taste, and smell. Went over very well (especially since he got a few that went with more than one sense!).

My personal favorite gifts were wines from around the world from the year I was born (which happened to be a very good year for wine) and a collection of Baz Lurhman's movies in a super pack (both very personal).

Just make it personal, I also loved the PJ pants I got one year!

Cooking a meal, massages and the bedroom are only for "special occasions"?....Does he even like comedy clubs?..Skip the facial..sounds like something you would like ....Try thinking of something he would actually like rather than things you would like....Good Luck...
