I agree with this. I don't think we are getting the whole story and we know nothing about why this guy is reacting the way he is. We don't know how much interaction there has been between them, we don't know if this is typically how the OP handles interest in men, we don't know what the email said . . . we really don't know much. There are too many unknowns about this guy to come to any kind of firm conclusions about him and why he might be responding the way he is.

I don't think, based on what the OP has posted so far, that his reaction sounds particularly reasonable, but we haven't heard from him and it is highly unlikely that we ever will, so every attempt to understand him will necessarily be based on "it could be this or it could be that." I do agree with the person who said that most people feel stalked for a reason, they don't just make it up.

I also think that the OP needs to walk away from this one - completely.
