It's suprising to me that LindseyK is having such difficulty.

Either things have changed, or it's just much harder for non US citizens to enter.

I have driven back and forth across the US - Canadian boarder about a dozen times, and I never had an issue.

The Canadian customs are especially happy to speed you through.

Even being a US citizen driving a Quebec registered car posed no problem at all.
I've heard it's much easier to cross into Canada. I haven't too much trouble entering the U.S. I've only encountered small problems twice and I did get into the country. I think it's probably more difficult to travel as the fiancee of a U.S. citizen than just as a regular traveler. There are more regulations and requirements attached to fiance(e)s because the end goal is to move to the U.S. and they don't want anyone attempting to get around the system.

I do think it has become more difficult for non-U.S. citizens to get into the country than it used to be, though.

Don't even consider it if you have any sort of felony on your record. The border is getting tight. I know a high court judge that was turned away for a DUI.

The OP should also be open to relocate to Canada to pursue a serious relationship. Never a forgone conclusion that the Canadian citizen will be the one to move to the U.S.

Unless something has changed recently, you've been fortunate. That may have something to do with the relatively warm relations between Canada and the USA. But for less-warm countries....

Googled, and found this: Can I visit the US while I wait for my K-1 visa?

Which you could find amounts to absolute zero if the inspecting officer got up on the wrong side of the bed that day. Yeah, it's like that.

You are truly blessed.
blessed- yes she is. and so am i. but let me address your post.

let's see... hmmm... trust google searches and lawyers out to make a buck? or those who have real-life practical experience...?

hmmmm...

I'm not sure what you mean by this. But it should come as no surprise...since he was kind enough to point you in the right direction...to learn that Co6aka does indeed "have real-life practical experience" with the cumbersome immigration process for purposes of marriage.

I am really not trying to be rude or troublesome, but I'm not sure why this information wouldn't come as a surprise. No mention was made of personal experience with the K1 visa process, the information was just presented as a Google search, which, while there is nothing wrong with it and it's one resource among many we've looked at since we started this process last December, it is a very easy thing to search. There are numerous sites devoted to the visa process, so to attach a link with no other background given does give the impression that a Google search is all that was done and anybody, experience with the process or not, can do that.

It was very kind of Co6aka to provide the link and I'm sure it will be of benefit to those who are new to the process or who are contemplating a relationship with someone from another country. I don't think it's really fair to assume we all know who has had experience with this process, though. I certainly don't know half the posters around here as well as I might or what their relationship history is like vis-a-vis the immigration process.

Thank you for letting us know about Co6aka.

I make it a point to learn as much as I can about people here. Helps with perspective, and eases my path towards understanding others...always a plus.

But soon enough a glowing affianced couple will have enough of their own experience with immigration to fill a book. And I do understand it's easier coming from "friendly" Canada, so probably no further help is needed.
