I have broken off a relationship, and it got me thinking...

What helps you get over an ex?

I allow myself one night of a total meltdown. Listen to all 'our' music, reread old letters, bawl my eyes out all nightin front of a chick flick, entire pint of Ben & Jerry's....

Then I find the best cure for an old boyfriend is a new one. I have a date next Saturday.

What is your cure for a breakup?

Good friends, good food, good wine. Keeping myself busy and surrounding myself with these things always helps.

I completely agree with BlueEyedVal! I wish she was closer so we could share a bottle of wine together!

Anyway...

Jazmintte...it might be easy for you to discard someone after only one night of meltdown, it usually takes most men and women a few weeks (or even longer) to completely forget the EX! Contrary to popular belief, men don't always "get over an EX-GF or EX-SPOUSE!" After one or more disappointing relationships, I think many of us (including me) are a bit cautious when it comes to dating or attempting to engage in a serious friendship with another woman!

Not ever easy, never 'discard', and can't 'completely' forget.....but I only allow one night of meltdown. Had too many times where there were too many nights of meltdown. Where mental health is at stakeI've found that's not helpful towards 'moving on', cautiously or otherwise.

It's taken me 2 1/2 weeks to stop crying. I agree with BlueEyedVal; good friends, good food, good wine. This definitely helped me to get out of my 'funk'. Idedicatedsome time for grieving, accepting things for what they are, and snapped out of it afterward. Its great. Iwent to the city last night and tonight was low-key with friends. My girlfriends have definitely been there for me.

I just got out of a relationship a few weeks ago, and I'm still having issues with it. But I found the best cure or close to cure at least. Was the day after we broke up I went out with a girlfriend to a pub. And we talked played some pool, and well the extra bit to help was some guy spent the whole night hitting on me. Sure I'm not planning on getting into anything right away, but that extra ego boost is always helpful I find.

I think you have to through the stages of loss. It takes a different amount of time for each person. Be extra kind to yourself and be with your friends. The passage of time seems to do wonders. I found keeping busy, exercise, eating right, and being positive (helping others) works for me.
