Tried to post this question earlier and it vanished in cyberspace I guess. If it shows up again I apologize.

I'm 50 and downsized recently to a townhouse (hate home improvement stuff), have a good job as a test pilot, don't have to work much, play golf, enjoy life, widowed with no kids around and yet this seems to be a turn-off to the "normal" women I've been matched up with?

Had one close me out after she asked me if I had a side jobbusiness and if I did volunteer work. She couldn't believe I showed up for work some days and just drank coffee, BSed, went to lunch and then home to play.

To the OP: so, what is it exactly you are wanting from a woman at this stage in your life? Someone to watch T.V. with ???

I am not a test pilot nor have ever known a test pilot but I do know that is part of the work life of test pilots. It is also part of the life of other professions where you don't work in a traditional office environment. When you are busy you are very busy but you also spend a lot of time waiting on someone or something else to happen before you can get started. Been there done that.

I dunno; I'm in your age group and that sounds pretty great to me...(or maybe I just wish it was me...lol). Anyway, it sounds like you are enjoying life and have a lot of flexibility to do things that you enjoy -- which I assume would include spending time with a significant other.

Do you get the sense that they are concerned about your financial position, or just that you might be underfoot too much because of all your free time (haha)?

So, you get paid well and you don't have to work much? You're my hero....

Is it your job title of test pilot that scares them, or is it that you do what pilots do most which is waiting for a mission? Even considering what I remember of pilot egos from my time in the AF, it isn't a turn-off for me. But then, I'm probably not normal.

It could just be that they think you may have too much free time on your hands. I face the same thing when matched with men who took early retirement; because I'm still working the 9-5 and they all want a partner who enjoys travelling. I just don't enjoy the freedom they do.

You know, I don't know what it is. Yea, I get paid very well. My total expenses including food, gas, 401K is just under half my net income.

I don't know about the underfoot thing. They are just shocked that I can email, IM or whatever sometimes all day. Don't know if in their mind I needto be more industrious or what. No ego issue for me. I started flying for a living in my late 30's so I'm well grounded, very laid back, no worries.

Don't necessarily want someone to watch TV with but at times yea. Travel some, hang out in the evenings, unbridled sex, all that good stuff. The last two ffrom eH and one I met last night is just not sure about my lifestyle. The two before that who I did have a connection and we were hot for each other turned out to be nutty but sex addicts, so it wasn't completely a loss. One was a habitual liar and the other had 10 cats, 4 dogs, and a bunch of other animals.

Just frustrating that's all.

You know if you can "catch" one of these guys that have retired early maybe they can give you that same freedom they enjoy.

Actually had to do a 2 hour flight. Long day for me.

I just always thought a woman would want a guy that makes good money, has lots of free time, doesn't have to work his cell phone 247, is never tired after a work day.

The one I met last night is 35, has a 13 year old and she is involved with him in scouts, music and has a busy job. It's like what the heck do you do with your free time that is constructive or contributes to society. She didn't say that but I got the point. My take was, hey I'vegot more time for you and your son than most men could even dream of. This morning we exchanged emails and hers said she hoped I had some flying to do so I'm not sitting around on my hands with nothing to do. What the heck is wrong with that? The pay is the same and I'll be fresh for the holiday weekend. Unfortunately I only got the one email, nothing like the frantic emails of excitement over meeting yesterday.
