I have been smoking Pot since I was 18. The effect is definately different than getting drunk. Drinking lowers inhibitions, thus making it more likely for some idiot drunk to get behind the wheel and kill somebody. Pot smokers don't typically smoke and drive. There was a study put out last year by the WA State Patrol stating that 87% of all DUIs recorded in Washington State in 2008 were as the result of drunken driving, and the other 13% consisted of persons under the influence of Marijuana, prescription drugs, or other narcotics. It is DEFINATELY not nearly as dangerous as alcohol.

As far as "CHERIPY" and the comment that they made, neither I nor ANYONE I HAVE EVER KNOWN has hallucinated from smoking marijuana. It just doesn't work like that. Hallucinations are a side effect of a stimulant. Toxins settle into the brain and cause hyperactivity in certain areas. Meth, acid, and shrooms are some examples of this. Marijuana is quite different. It is a depressant. Instead of stimulating over-activity in the brain, it depresses certain brain activity. And numerous studies have failed to prove any long-term side effects. Most show that any side effects are temporary and dissappear when the person stops using pot.

I personally suffer from severe insomnia that used to last for weeks. I started smoking pot to get rid of the migraines caused by the insomnia and found that ithelped both problems. In 2005 I quit smoking pot, WITHOUT ANY sort of withdrawls or physical symptoms, in order to get a different job. About 2 months later, the insomnia returned, followed by the migraines. I went to a specialist who prescribed a pill. That did nothing except make me feel like crap and get addicted to a sleeping pill. So I went back to pot and have felt great ever since.

So, with that said, I am strongly in favor of legalizing marijuana. This article states that 10 million Americans smoke pot. That's a huge demand for a product that our government can and should utilize. If they used a few resources and a little thought, they could develop laws and regulations similar to those regulating the sale and consumption of alcohol and cigarettes. They could cultivate it on the land made available by tearing down Guantanamo Bay. All sales would be taxed by the government, and all purchases would have to be made through an approved and licensed facility. The money that is currently being exchanged every day between consumer and pot dealer would re-enter the mainstream, no longer bypassing the IRS, and generate MILLIONS in tax dollars to spend on things like schools and education.

I'm tired of hearing how marijuana is bad and ruins lives. When you put it up against things like cigarettes and alcohol, in terms of health concerns and overall efect on the family unit, marijuana comes out on top. It's time to move past all of the stereotypes and myths, and legalize pot for the health of the american morale and the health of the American economy.

I do not have a problem with prior use, but current is a deal-breaker. I support legalizing pot, but my current job and hobbies would be severely curtailed if I were to be arrested due to your marijuana possession.

I would get as far away from that person as I could. Drugs in my mind are nothing that I want to get involved in.

Someone smoking Mary Jane would be a dealbreaker for me. First, I like to be alert and aware and would like someone the same. Also because of the fact that using it is illegal. I will occasionally have a glass of wine, but if this became illegal I wouldn't, as I'm just not that attached to it.

What becomes obviously clear whenever this topic comes up, the reefer tokers will almost always say, "legalize it," and point out a bunch of pros about it, while the non-smokers out there will always say, "It's destroying society," asking for it to be treated like more serious drugs.
I do not smoke but in theory I would support legalizing it. I'm generally for people being free to do what they like, whether this is good for them or not. However, the current overall preference in the U.S. seems to be to have the government provide more services for people. This being the caseI think it will be necessary for the trend to become making more things illegalthat may potentially increase the use of these services. For example, if we want the government to provide healthcare for us we need to accept that the government will have the right to prohibit us from doing things that could make this healthcare more costly.

I have no problem with marijuana smokers -- I do not believe it is a gateway drug and I have never met a marijuana smoker who was not mellow. I have issues with people in general who are lazy and sloppy -- that does not necessarily mean that marijuana smokers are lazy and sloppy, but lots of people who don't smoke marijuana are lazy and sloppy. I am very sympathetic towards Michael Phelps. I guess he forgot that when you are a celebrity, you live in a fishbowl and you really can't trust anyone not to sabotage you. Chin up Michael -- I know you learned a hard lesson.

Pot is GROSS and anyone that uses it for ANYTHING other than CANCER is LAME. Pot smokers are lazy, selfish and unreliable. No thanks.

I will not date anyone who smokes pot. I want to know that up-front. I also do not date heavy drinkers or social drinkers that are unaware of how buzzed they get and how often. I used to do it myself and I am done with unhealthy life choices. It is not healthy, and being illegal, it is not safe to be around it right now. Yes, it is a gateway drug for most young users. It does have dampening effects on motivation and energy. It is a "low vibration" substance that interferes with intimacy.

Having divorced a substance abuser (alcohol mostly but also smoked marijuana) and now being a nurse, I can see regular marijuana use as a huge red flag that this person has issues including not learning how to cope with stress, anxiety, and/or other life challenges. In the future you choose with this person, this will probably be what they turn to for 'self soothing' andthis individual will probably be incapable of working on their issuesto solve or change to better their life and your relationship. Medical marijuana is for exactly this: helping people cope with the side effects of chemofor those witha medical diagnosis of cancer. If you read the state law, it is very specific about whocan have it and it is very regulated. Regardless, don't date someone who has to 'have a drink/or a smoke.' Pretty soon you will be the reason they drink/smoke and it will be all your fault they behave badly......substance abuse is messed up.

fire it up , buttercup!! like anything else in life...its about priority's...if it rules your life ,it could be trouble. and that goes for everything from pot - booze-shopping - or even sex...so like anything else it depends on use or abuse.
