the fabulous grand hotel (Hotel Coronado?) where Marilyn Monroe did the 1958 movie, would be a must.
Brunch (weekends only?) at the Hotel Del Coronado is not a cheap date, but is certainly worthwhile (make reservations, and arrive hungry). Plan extra time to tour some of the hotel hallways, if you like seeing artwork.

There is a farmer's market every single day of the year somewhere in San Diego County, Christmaqs and Thanksgiving included. In late February, early March, the Anzo Borrego desert explodes with the most gorgeous wildflowers. The bloom is short but worth the wait and the drive. Just north of Escondido is the Palomar Observatory, a very romantic place for a picnic. Kayaking near La Jolla is a fun one too. There are so many things to do here...and the weather is gorgeous 99% of the time. Having moved here from Southeast Alaska, it is one of the things I love most...and, the fact that I can drive more than 10 miles without running out of road is a major plus too.
