I have decided to try OKC and Match again and wrote a profile this morning. I would appreciate your critique. All comments - positive and negative are welcome! It is is OKC style:

My self summary

I am the type of woman that you want to spend time with. I exude optimism. I love to explore and I have an adventurous side- not the skydiving kind…the kind where we discover a wonderful little B&B by meandering and we don’t come up for air for 3 days. I am successful so people are often surprised by how laid back I am. I am a thinker…but I am also that one who is busy getting things done. I am looking for a modern day Cary Grant type – smart, witty and fun. You don’t have to look like him but a little irreverence will go a long way with me. A creative type is a bonus but you should definitely have a good imagination. What you do is not as important to me as what you think and what you think about.

What I am doing with my life

I hope that I am making a difference. I am looking at the big picture. I am creating laughter and happiness. I work in strategy and I love it but it does not define me. I am raising kids, which is so wonderful but I am more than a soccer mom. And I don’t own “mom jeans”

I am really good at

Multi-tasking
Cooking
Friendship
Kissing
Making people feel good about themselves, not just by kissing them like I mean it

The first thing people usually notice about me

That I am easy to talk to.

Favorite things

I am a chick….I devour Janet Evanovich novels. Love PG Wodehouse, the Scarpetta series and the Kite Runner. I think the Hangover is hilarious, enjoyed Julie and Julia and I also like movies that make me think. I rarely watch TV but I like Modern Family and the Newsroom. My ipod has a lot of Norah Jones, Eric Clapton, Melissa Etheridge and a pretty eclectic range of music. I hope you will help me add some new tunes.

I love to cook and I would really love to cook for you. My kitchen is usually fragrant with the smells of baking bread and simmering pasta sauce. I like most cuisines, but am particularly fond of Thai, Greek and Italian. I. like everyone else on here I think, love Ravinia, the Art Institute, bike riding in the forest preserves and a really great day at the beach.

The six things I can’t live without

My kids go without saying, right? I have a lot of stuff, but I don’t really need much.

A damn good espresso in the morning.
My ipad
Something interesting to do (I am making a very cool modern quilt right now)
A beach day
Inspiration
Affection

I spend a lot of time thinking about

That thing I just saw on the flip pad app – can I do that? Should I do that? Where I should go for my next vacation. Just how long a to-do list can get before you should call in an expert.

On a typical Friday night I am

chilling. Maybe cooking dinner for friends or just watching a movie with a glass of wine.

The most private thing I am willing to admit

I am geographically challenged….I think the inventor of the GPS deserves a nobel prize.

You should message me if

You laughed at least once reading this. You really are looking for a relationship…I don’t do casual. You want to see if we are really as good a match as our profiles seem to be.

It's poorly written and cheesy. The "I am successful" part sounds extremely fake because it sounds like it's written by someone who can't write.

And this bit:-

"I am the type of woman that you want to spend time with."

"I exude optimism."

Awful.

"I love to explore and I have an adventurous side- not the skydiving kind…the kind where we discover a wonderful little B&B by meandering and we don’t come up for air for 3 days. I am successful so people are often surprised by how laid back I am. I am a thinker…but I am also that one who is busy getting things done. Explore what/where? Explain your "adventurous" side.

Instead of all this "I like to discover a B and B" etc give a specific example.

e.g. "Last summer I found myself in Ireland with a friend and discovering a B and B, not because of google but just by exploring! We spent unplanned 3 days discovering [insert place name]..."

instead of "I'm successful" state something about you.

e.g. "10 years ago I started my own restaurant...." or whatever

" love to cook and I would really love to cook for you. "
- this is insincere and a lie! "I love to cook and especially for someone I care about!"

Well in typing turns out I'm not first guy to speak, but here is my views.

OKC is my best activity site too in the general sense of speaking anyways.

Right off in self-summary.. you sound adventurous.. speaking of a B&B and not coming up for air .. reading it more than once it kept sounding sexy, but it also sends a message of fast and early casual physical opportunity. (A lil cheesy perhaps too like Steve says) Not to say guys including myself wouldn't like this.. but then at the end of your profile you say you're not looking for casual.

Problem: You've sent a mixed message.. now most guys messaging are the casuals, a few may want serious with sex included, but even those might be confused

Wow.

Many vibrant words. (The kitchen simmering, fragrant ...) Very appealing.

I'd rather not see a celebrity referance, even a dead one. It's like, "here's the bar I have set for you guys to top." Remember, men are used to having their massages ignored, so an attitude of being compared to a public figure and I just close.

There's a bunch of statements with no detail, explanation, or example: ("making a difference, looking at the big picture ...") In addition to the risk of buzzword ennui, I'd rather see something to expand on these types of phrases.

Overall, it's far better than the average profile I read.

I am looking for a modern day Cary Grant type – smart, witty and fun. You don’t have to look like him but a little irreverence will go a long way with me. No one wants to measure themselves against a celebrity - imagine the ick factor of reading a man's profile, talking about wanting a Grace Kelly - the bit about irreverence is good, though A creative type is a bonus but you should definitely have a good imagination. What you do is not as important to me as what you think and what you think about.

This just...sounds like you're trying. Stop trying to sell yourself and write a paragraph or two that express what you would like someone to walk away knowing after a nice conversation. Your attitude towards life, your speed (are you someone who likes to be busy from 8a to 2a on the weekends, or do you like to be lazy on Saturday?), etc. I italicized the sections that give me an idea of who you are/what you're like.

What I am doing with my life

I hope that I am making a difference. I am looking at the big picture. I am creating laughter and happiness. I work in strategy and I love it but it does not define me. I am raising kids, which is so wonderful but I am more than a soccer mom. And I don’t own “mom jeans”

Good - the "I hope" could sound wishy-washy or passive. Why not "I strive to make a difference" or something?

I am really good at

Multi-tasking
Cooking
Friendship
Kissing
Making people feel good about themselves, not just by kissing them like I mean it

The first thing people usually notice about me

That I am easy to talk to.

Favorite things

I am a chick….Not an accurate lead in - The Kite Runner and the Hangover are not particularly chick-y. I would organize this section - books seperate from movies, etc. List just a few things, don't expound too much. This is just a section to scan - better to focus on what KIND of entertainment you like and the best examples of "your kind" (comedy, drama, horror, high-, middle-, low-brow) b/c those really communicate whether you share taste. I devour Janet Evanovich novels. I like most cuisines, but am particularly fond of Thai, Greek and Italian. I. like everyone else on here I think, love Ravinia, the Art Institute, bike riding in the forest preserves and a really great day at the beach.

Including some favorites outside of the given categories is a nice touch

The six things I can’t live without

My kids go without saying, right? I have a lot of stuff, but I don’t really need much.
This is interesting. Is there a way to add another sentence and expand on being non-materialistic? That could be a point of compatibility.

A damn good espresso in the morning.
My ipad
Something interesting to do (I am making a very cool modern quilt right now)
A beach day
Inspiration
Affection

You laughed at least once reading this. You really are looking for a relationship…I don’t do casual. This was always the first section I scanned - this is where people unload their baggage. Express a desire for a committed relationship at the beginning, then ask about someone's goal in dating during communication. I'm not sure these warnings work - just throwing in something that will attract someone who is on the same page and repel everyone else is a better tactic. You want to see if we are really as good a match as our profiles seem to be.
Not bad - there are some very good parts (italicized) but some of it is generic or isn't as authentic as you seem to be otherwise.

Ackkk...my reply was modded. Thanks for your thoughtful response ami....I appreciate your thoughts. I don't know if you would need little blue pills or not but I take your point I think "mom jeans" is quite a common phrase around here but I will see if I can remove some cliches.
