you don't need a partner in dance classes. usually what happens is that you rotate partners throughout the class. usually you have an imbalance one way or another but the instructors have ways to work around it (including getting higher level students to volunteer).

Even if you bring a partner, they will have you dance with other guys in the class. Basically, I don't think any of your concerns are uncommon. The instructors will be used to it. Just make sure you wear something you can move around in, and avoid shoes with rubber soles. Generally, you want to be able to slide your feet. Of course, they may tell you something, and I'm not all that knowledgeable on dancing.

Where's Tangochef when you need him? I'm sure he will have some good ideas for you since he lives in your area.

I used to be really into the swing dance scene in Chicago, and I imagine your area offers the same types of opportunities. I found events to go to by just googling "swing dance chicago" and all sorts of stuff came up. The city offered free lessons in Grant Park in the summer, there was a dance floor and stage in the middle of the park outside, and they taught different types of dance on different nights. That's where I initially learned a lot. Some of the other events were at bars/clbus on weeknights for a small cover, they usually had a lesson for like an hour followed by open dance for 3 or 4 hours. The lessons had a good mix of men and women, and you would switch up partners because it's good to learn how to dance w/ different people. Even the more advanced folks participated in the lessons to help out the newbies since it's hard to learn to be a good follow when your lead is new too. There were also a few studios in town that offered regularly scheduled lessons that you pay for, and they make sure the balance between men and women is equal. If you go that route, they will give you suggestions on what to wear. I usually wore black tighter fitting slacks that had a bit of a stretch to them, a tighter fitting top/tshirt (loose stuff gets in the way), and some very well worn in Converse tennies that had pretty smooth soles. Other girls wore skirts. For classic ballroom you would probably want something with at least a small heel and an ankle strap. They also sell shoes specifically for dancing but they're pricey so until you figure out if you like it or not, I wouldn't recommend buying those.

Good luck, it's a great way to meet new people, get a ton of exercise, and have a lot of fun

Of those instructors Linda Valentino, Edmundo and Elizabeth, or Vladimir would be best in your area for beginner group classes.

You don't need a partner as others have mentioned people switch around during those classes.
