Looking for a "real man" (Whatever that means)
Well, you know, they have to put that to distinguish themselves from the ones who are looking for a cyborg man.

"I'm a fun-loving girl"

Translation: I'm an obnoxious party girl.

Another favorite headline to see "Are there any normal women/men out there?" Screams = I am always attracted to drama!

Yep. It can also translate as, "Are there any men/women out there who are abnormal in the same way that I am?"

If what you consider to be "normal" is really difficult to find in the population, then by definition it's not "normal".

Maybe someone should start a thread about what dating profiles would look like without cliches. Mine would include:

What I'm most passionate about:
Timing my visits to the grocery store so I can beat the train across the tracks either direction.

Getting through that emergency trip to Home Depot in my "home improvement clothes" without running into anyone who actually knows me.

Finding two clean socks that match on the rare days here when it's cool enough to require socks.

'Tis a glamorous life I lead!
LOL... awesome. I was thinking along these lines too, after watching that movie 'The Invention of Lying'

A Completely Honest eH Profile:

Description: Hair on head and isolated other spots... it's brown. Skin, eyeballs, genitals.

Hobbies: Breathing, going to work, neurotically chewing my fingernails while watching bad TV, fantasizing about a life that does not so closely resemble hell.

Most Passionate About: Pretending I'm a better person than I actually am, buying books I'll never read so people will see them on my shelf, listening to the same songs I liked in high-school over and over until my ears bleed, judging strangers based on appearance, idly daydreaming about nothing, planning to go to the gym and then not going, and watching cooking shows with paper and pen but never actually cooking anything.

Looking For: Someone who is crazy in just the right way, so that to them I do not seem crazy.

Although... now that I think about about it, if I read this in a girls profile I would probably want to contact her.

To carry this line of discussion a little farther, these cliches leak into the profile photos as well. For example,

Friends first - and they only have 1/12 photos with them by themselves. I'm not looking to date your friends. And if your BFF is better looking than you, don't put them in your profile photos. I am now less interested in you and more in them. I'll be the first to admit looks aren't everything, but there is a natural tendency to gravitate toward things we find attractive.

And my personal fav...the solo pet photo. I love animals as much as the next person, but like I pointed out above, this is about me trying to find interest in you, NOT YOUR PET!!!

This is not to say one or two photos with you and some friend(s) or your pet(s) is bad, but when you place the profile photos with the cliche ridden profile text, a persons profile/character truely appears.

My advice:
If your friends are better looking than you are, it is generally best to leave them out of the picture entirely. The half of their face that shows is still better looking than yours.

Introduce them to your match as quickly as possible after there's a spark in the hope that he'll have become desensitized to their hotness by the time that spark cools. The plus side of that is they will be less likely to date him in the future if they've had to think of him as your boyfriend for more than a week.
