"Just your average guy!"

I understand what you mean EccentricAmbiguity. I've tried dating guys that describe themselves as average and I don't do well with them. They end up falling for this idea of me because they think I'm so exciting (I don't think I am, I just go about live in a way that makes sense to me). I don't want to feel like someone is looking at me as an outlet for adventure. Or worry that they'll be disappointed when they find out that sometimes I do like to spend quiet evenings at home.

So now, I do keep an eye out for the guy that has backpacked through Europe or the guy that's an entrepreneur or the guy that's passionate about communities in Africa having access to clean water or the guy that challenges himself to live on a dollar a day. eHarmony has exposed me to many of them (and they don't come across as narcissistic at all). This is actually why I'm having such a good experience with this site. I previously thought that maybe I was looking for the impossible, but I'm finding that it actually exists and I'm encouraged that these are the types of people that I get matched with.

P.S. - Your marriage sounded like absolute torture. I'd be miserable. I know that works for some people and I think it's great. I'm just not one of them. I desire a level of stability, but that just sounds depressing.
