Oh, and since you're a giant you need to be aware of body language. Stand back a little further than the typical 1 1/2 feet "personal space" - it makes eye contact easier. And move a standing conversation to sitting, if possible - again, it will minimize a height difference.

My dad is 6'6 and he's very careful to position himself to avoid crowding people/making them crane their heads to make eye contact. People are often surprised at his height b/c he's so good at de-emphasizing it during a first impression

Thanks for the advice! Good point. It might be obvious that I'm "looking". I'm not in a rush. I just want some concrete goals that I can work towards over the next 7 days. Small steps, but at least something, you know?

I'll try "sit down" areas like coffee shops, lounges, bus stops, parks, etc. Just joined meetup.com. Not many members in my city, but better than nothing! I'll also try minimizing my height and keeping extra distance. Good ideas!

You've all given me great ideas on where to meet people. Thanks! My next question is, once I'm there, how should I make the approach so as to not intimidate them? (I don't stare!)
