I've noticed a trend out there that there are single women who are wearing rings which appear to be engagement or wedding rings. Also there are married women going out with single friends who do not wear their engagement or wedding rings.

This is self serving for them so they can either weasel out drinks from men or so they can pick and choose guys as if from a buffet.

Why all this deceit?

Checked your profile here and I see that you are kind of young. So here is a clue, this is not a new phenomenon. Women have been doing this for years. Men do the same thing sort of, married ones will take off their wedding ring when they are looking to pick up something for the evening.

Also if you happen to be noticing this on tray girls, they often wear engagement and wedding rings to fend off advances from customers.

You're saying women actually wear rings on their left hand ring finger without being in any kind of partnered relationship? Maybe they're trying to have a nice night out without having to deal with guys like us hitting on them. I haven't heard of this, though. Must be an east coast thing?

As for married people taking off their rings, that is of course something I've heard of.

Wearing a ring some assume to be engagement or even fake engagement rings is a long time trend. I used to do it for the reason stated by nick. I simply didn't feel like being hit on. But, it was a spectacular ring, purposeful in its intent. Three huge 2+ carat fake diamonds. There was no questions from any guy about that ring.

To assume that the ring is a "fake" engagement ring is really bad tho. I wore a ring on my right hand and was asked by men all the time if it was an engagement ring. If they can't tell the difference between my left and right hands, that's on them.

My first thought was that I've never encountered this. My second thought was that I probably have and just didn't know it. I've never heard my single female friends mention doing it, though. I guess they like being hit on.

Some cultures put engagement rings on the right hand. If you choose to confuse men, you're primarily the one who has to face the consequences. Granted, if you're asked "all the time" if it was an engagement ring you may be attractive enough those missed opportunities don't matter.

Ring on left index finger = don't ask them out. Whether it's real or fake doesn't really cause any complications for men.

I don't believe engagement rings (real or fake) confer any magical powers on women. They can only "pick and choose" as far as their looks, personality, education, etc. allow just like you and me.

How are you knowing this Micro? Are you actually asking them if they are engaged or married?

I do realize this. But, most people don't. Least of all the young cowboys I typically run into.

What's interesting is that I had female friends who would complain when I put on my huge fake ring when we went out. It was like the ring was on their hand and not just mine!

I served a man recently and against my normal trend I found myself attracted to him. Very articulate, funny, made great eye contact, got my humor (that's a toughie too!), and handsome, but when I look he's wearing a band...oh well, not really trying to date now anyway, so whatever.
During his meal he tells me "this isn't a wedding ring, just so ya know".
He leaves me his number and all, but I'm left wondering why he's wearing a band on his left ring finger...one that looks like a wedding band...

Not just girls that do this, apparently.
