The compliment would be great, but making it a drive-by by walking away is probably not the best tactic. It strikes me a little bit as "look at how mysterious I am, now chase me" game playing. If you want to talk to a guy, just do that.
Photo that addresses this very thing.

Hey guys!

Since becoming a free agent again, I've had a bad case of RES (roving eye syndrome) and have seen many a cute guy cross my path of late.
It's rutting season. This may be hormones.

Some so cute that I've had to fight hard to resist the urge to walk up to them and say something like:

"I just wanted to tell you that I think you're gorgeous."

and walk away.

And so I ask the good men of eHarmony Advice:

If a woman walked up to you and said such a thing, how would you feel?

How would you react (outwardly)? Would your reaction be different based on whether or not you thought she was also attractive? If so, how so?

Looking forward to hearing what the guys have to say on this topic!
I would smile no matter what, and think of it as friendly.

I may or may not think it's odd. If you walked away hastily without looking back, probably odd. If you sashayed away looking over your shoulder, and flipping back your hair, probably not odd. If you "accidentally" dropped something while walking away, bent over to pick it up and looked back at me for a second before standing up and walking away, I would probably assume it's rutting season, and therefore it would be both odd and not odd at the same time.

I was recently told at work that I was a snappy dresser.

My response: *said in best Elvis impersonation* "Thank you. Thank you very much."
