In this scenario, I wonder how you "know" that you're never going to be rescued. Even on Gilligan's Island, they never gave up on trying to get off the island. Not to mention, there were guest stars every other week who made it there, too.

Fun question, lets hit the rewind button and set it back till about 200,000 BC Homo sapiens sapiens, are the latest and greatest creations of (evolution/divine intervention/alien creation/or whatever) on the block and one partly cloudy day a astroid decided to go up side good old mother earths head, and are numbers got real small, like possible only 25 reproducing females on earth, or what they call a evolutionary bottle neck, now one of these lucky ladies are mine, yours, and everyones great X 10^(something large) grandmother aka Mitochondrial eve, the mother of all humanity. Now I would bet real money she did not have a whole lot of men to chose from probably one or two, some how she was able to get the deed done, how well let take a look at the most powerful computer know to man the human brain.
The human brain comes equipped with two handy features for this situation, plasticity (meaning it can rewire it self, IE upgrade its own soft-where) and the basic animal drive to reaperduce, now its come from the factory to seek out the best possible mate, but it has a fail safe, in the event you can not fine, the best mate it will re-progam so available mates become attractive, examples of this are all over this board, if you think about it. Office romances, some of the nice guy story, class mates story ect. The common dominator in this situation is a lot of time alone with the other person, with not other oppisite sex contact and bam there goes the brain modifying stuff. for you its great when both parties go threw the same thing, but what you see on here is the other party has acess to a more diverse date pool and there brains stay in most attractive genes mode, the other party is left to come here and bash the gender of there choseing.

The other thing to keep in minf is that humans are the current primer (Apex) pack hunter gathers. One of us is a easy snack for a lion, but put four of to geather and some sticks and rocks and we are no match for said lion or anything else. So once again you brains on that desert islands is going to say work togeather, and over time you will be delighfully smitten.

Speaking of being stranded on a desert island, separate halves of the island, and learning to live together and depend on each other for survival, I'm not thinking of Gilligan's Island, and certainly not Lord of the Flies (I never did see why that was supposed to be a classic, actually. ). There's another "stranded on a deserted island" story that comes to mind. I'm surprised noone's mentioned it. Now where have I heard this...

"We can either learn to live together, or we can die alone."

Although, if the woman I'm stuck on the island with looks like Kate, then there'll be no problem at all!

Just give me Sawyer or Sayid - a man who can get things done (even if Sawyer says "every man for himself", you know he doesn't really mean it). Jack is way too whiny.

So the main thing the OP said was "don't nit-pick at the details of the question or the options provided... just get to wherever you have to get so make these 2 options the opeions".... so what does everybody do? lol.

Wow.. some interesting responses. The answer is going to be "B" for everybody (in reality) because:

1. Humans have a deep need for social activity and bonding.
2. everybody on this post is forgetting about the power of mutual dependence on survival and geting through difficult situations with another human being ~ and the bonds (very deep bonds) that can create between 2 humans.

Ever go through a horrible situation and survived with somebody? You develop a very strong bond and love for that person and it DOESN'T matter what likes, dislikes, commonalities at that point that you have or don't have.

The answer is ultimately going to be B for everybody.

Yea, I've got to agree with you. My grandpa used to use that exact scenario (stranded on a deserted island with a woman), and say that even if she were the ugliest woman on the planet, eventually you'd wind up falling inlove with each other. I think movies like African Queen and Father Goose are built on that premise. I'm often the contrarian on these boards, though, so I thought I'd let someone else take that role this time.
