I gave in and joined okcupid again. I messaged a guy within a 30 minute drive. He declined to communicate further stating I was too far away and that I should edit my profile to let guys know up from I live "in the middle of nowhere". Every profile says where we live so why would I need to add more? I have dated a guy two hours away and it has been a non issue.

Edit: he added that most 20-somethings near DC don't have cars and I should let them know up front where I live. I replied back that if he has no car and has a distance requirement then HE should put it in HIS profile. Mine already states where I live.

You don't need to do anything with your profile...If I recall correctly okc gives the exact distance. The guy was just being a jack

Yes. Yes it does. He is the one without a car. He says I am in for a lot of trouble if I expect guys from that area to drive to me. Jerk.

I think he went about it all wrong...but he does have a valid point.....

Many young 20somethins who live in places like DC, mamhattan, san fran, seattle who live in that urban setting generally get by without owning a car.

Thus since its the man who doesnt have a car...do you expect him to drive to you? Would you drive and travel to see him? How does that make you feel? Do you think less of a man if he doesnt own a car or cant drive?

How... weird.

I don't know the DC area, but not having a vehicle/having a distance issue is for them to disclose and put the parameters in, not you. If you have a vehicle or other ways to traveling, I don't see the problem.

He sounds like a "Me. Me! ME!" kind of person.

I have done my fair share of driving to a guys house. I have no issue driving to a guy. I do have an issue if he would make no effort. I don't live far from the DC metro system as well. So picking him up from there wouldn't have been a problem.

But I guess I dodged a bullet.

This is just silly. I would ignore it. Having lived in cities where I didn't have or need a car as a 20 something, this wouldn't have stopped me from dating someone if I liked them and they lived outside that range. I can't imagine limiting yourself over something like that, but to each his own I suppose. Definitely on his shoulders and not yours though.

If I really wanted to see someone, I could get a rental car for the day.
