In 2010 I learned that it is possible to maintain good judgment and yet enjoy the moment more, without focusing as much (as I have in the past) on the what-if's. Definitely more fun!

As it pertains to online dating in particular:

1.) Get professional pics.

2.) Target profiles of those that I have a major "in" with - books, career, education, etc. Seems that this would be important in any dating situation.

3.) Minimum age of 29-30. Uh, 18 is legal (in some states the age is much lower). Sorry, couldn't resist

(The above has taken me from 1 in 20 response rate and almost never receiving first contact to a 1 in 4 response rate and on average receiving one first contact per day.)

As it pertains to dating in general:

1.) Don't stay with a dating situation if she ain't crazy about me after the second date and wants to still date around.

2.) Beware of being a chameleon (i.e., morphing to fit situation); be more of myself.

3.) Dating over = clean break/no contact.

4.) Wait at least a month and LOTS of communication and some regular together time before deciding to commit to a relationship.
Seems that this one is in conflict with number 1 above.

5.) Last and most importantly, TRUST MY GUT.
Comments in red above.

I learned that when someone walks away, you may never know why.

Wow, isn't that the truth?

I've learned:

* Don't spend hours on the phone and/or emailing prior to meeting in person.

* Enjoy the date (meeting) even if there isn't a second date on the horizon.

* Don't get upset when someone poofs.
