Avoiding embarrassment is probably the number one priority for most people on a first date. So why do so many people do themselves in by reaching for the wrong foods? Check out what shouldn’t be on the menu on a first date.

Eat what you want, you're on the date to enjoy yourself, right? Bring a mirror and check your teeth is good advice, so is bringing breath mints... but if you can't eat what you want in front of this person, why bother?

Once I was with a date who was so annoying, I ate the very thing he said he couldn't stand (sea urchine sushi) to avoid any possibility of an after-date kiss! I've grown up quite a bit since then, and can now turn down a kiss. I agree with Miss Piggy- eat what you want! Hopefully, if you really want to eat it, you're pretty good at handling that particular food gracefully.

I agree with the above poster. Eat what you want. A date is supposed to be fun. Why ruin it getting all uptight about what to eat? It has never been an issue with me. If some guy got all wound up over a bit of food in the teeth or some spilled meat juices then he is way too fastidious for this girl.

Seriously if you don't know how to use a napkin then i would agree you should avoid all these foods. But after reaching a certain age you have no excuse to look like a pig after eating .. shall we say age 7? Personally i have a full or partial set of facial hair most of the time and since i have had it most of my life its not a problem. However i cannot understand people who have a short mustache and or tiny beard and manage to collect a midnight snack in it in less then 5 minutes at a meal. Maybe they need to let it grow untrimmed for a month so they can practice?
Seeds/greens/stains in teeth happens to everyone. Its a natural thing and anyone who is gonna be embarrassed by this is in need of maturity. If my date doesn't have the common courtesy to tell me i "missed a spot" or "something in your teeth" then its no skin off my back if they don't want to date me. After all any serious relationship is a partnership where you cover each others backs as you grow together.

I think it is important to put your best foot forward but lets face it food is meant to be enjoyed. If I spill something or get something in my teeth it does not mean I am a bad person. This would be a poor means of judging a date. Any man or woman who holds this against someone has a problem themselves. As long as the person is not just being a pig and eating like one then what is the problem.

If you have issues with being a sloppy eater, I don't think you are going to many successful dates. After you're done eating, go to the bathroom and check yourself out in the mirror. And bring gum, so your breath doesn't smell like sushi or whatever it is you were eating.
