We whine constantly about pictures - no pictures, too far away, neck up, 6 friends in the picture, dead animals, shirtless bathroom mirror shots, the dreaded cell phone in the car shot. Surely there are some positive photos out there. I'm curious - What are some of the best profile pictures you have seen? What made them stand out?

I have two favorites. One was a university adminstrator; he was striding across campus in a suit. The wind had flipped his jacket open and his tie was captured in mid-swing, his arms were in motion, he was looking straight into the camera, squinting slightly in the sun. Very handsome man, but the photo captured him beautifully, active, assertive.
The second one was a photographer. He is lying on his stomach in a flack jacket with his camera and a really long zoom lens, shooting penguins. One shot is from the side, but there is one from the front; he is looking up from his camera, not smiling but not stern, just an intense full on shot. It is a black and white. I loved it because it really captured his passion for his work.

Without identifying anyone, I would love to hear about some profile pictures that captured your eye.

I almost started a thread a few weeks ago in a similiar vein.

I was searching match profiles in the area I'm moving to, in order to get sense of what people are like there (I've no idea if this is an accurate research method, but it's the only way I actually use my match subscribtion, thanks to auto renewal).

Anyway, one guy came across as really funny and charming in the most difficult of ways, shirtless photo.

He was standing among what appeared to be family and friends, all men.

The were lined up doing their most ridiculous shirtless flex poses, all shapes and sizes of them out on the lawn grimacing and showing off what little or lot of muscles they had. Like a bunch of little boys.

Though the age range was probably like 20-65.

This is strange to admit, but one picture that I found really striking (not his main profile picture) was of the guy in a plain white T-shirt, with a toothbrush in his mouth, and looking straight into the camera. Something about his expression--and perhaps it being a "vulnerable" moment--was really captivating.

(And I guess I'm odd for picking this--everyone else would be writing in to call it a "worst pic"!)

But other than that--I love black & whites. I message/favorite pretty much every guy with a black & white that I've ever seen. I'm also very much into pictures taken in profile, instead of dead-on, but looking into the camera can be very attractive as well. Lastly, while a smile is lovely, I prefer at least one unsmiling shot. They don't need to be scowling. I just like to see a serious/contemplative look.

ETA: So far we've got a shirtless photo and a bathroom shot? Too funny!

I'd rather love someone I can't have than have someone I can't love.

I prefer candid over posed. Can't pick one in particular though.

It's interesting, but not surprising, that you (a woman) liked pictures that made a guy's job and station in life clear.

As a man the best pictures to me were always the ones where a woman looked healthy, pretty, happy, and single - location was almost irrelevant. If it's her lying on her couch that's fine, if it's her at the beach that's fine, if it's her in her car, that's fine, too - as long as it captures those qualities.

Shots of her with all her friends with a beer mug in hand are a turn off. Shots of her with her "best friend" who happens to be a tall good looking guy (probably the dude she actually wants to be with, but he's already taken/gey/only interested in having sex with her) are probably the worst.

I would not have known the first picture was on a campus if he hadn't told me later; what attracted me was the sense of motion and activity, and the straight-forward strength of his gaze and his stride.

Having read many of your posts, Dropdeadredtx, I'll take your word on that.

If I were just responding to a stranger I'd say that maybe that was their conscious interpretation of their subconscious feeling of attraction, but that their subconscious attraction may be simply noting the social cues of a man who appeared in his pictures to be at a social station/have employment she finds attractive.

Photoshop takes up less space.

Despite stating I am in a relationship and only looking for friends, despite mentioning Troy in my profile, apparently guys on that cupid site like the hat. Yes the same one I am sporting in my avatar, that Troy took.

Yeah I am still not understanding why they are contacting me.
