Figure, after all the bashing I give you ladies on here, might as well do some community service and give you some public safety tips.

Heaven forbid, you're actually on a horrible date or in a bad situation that requires you to use your pepper spray (and please stop referring to pepper spray as mace, they are completely different.), are you familiar with the effects it's going to have on YOU?

If you have to use your spray outside, are you aware that even the slightest breeze will make the effects on you almost the same as your attacker? If you have to use your spray inside in close quarters, are you aware that the effects will be the SAME as on your attacker.

Have you ever sprayed your pepper spray just to see what it smells like? You should. Take an empty garbage can outside. Spray your pepper spray into it for 2-3 seconds, set it at your feet, and just stand up. If you can't handle the effects, you're not ready to use your pepper spray in a confrontation.... Because odds are you're just going to incapacitate yourself just as much as your attacker.

Do yourself a favor and don't hide behind the notion that you'll be spraying from a distance. An attacker can close and engage from 15 feet before you even have the chance to raise and spray. SO odds are even if your spray is out and in hand, you're going to be deploying your spray from 1-2 feet away.

Keep that in mind.
That's my little bit of good deed for the year.
Carry on.

i agree.

FWIW, there is a pepper spray available that is pressurized with fire extingusher propellent and will spray 13 feet, very, very forcefully. at 5 feet or less it's possible to cause permenent damage. the drawbacks (besides blowback/wind) is that you only get 2 5 second bursts.

but again, i agree. you should never rely on anything for self defense that you aren't practiced using and are committed fully to using.

A lot of people are immune to pepper spray as well. Had guys I've trained that I spray and they stand there like I sprayed them with water. Don't get too confidant in the spray, it may not even work.

I don't carry weapons out on dates. But if I did I guess one of those little propellant, non-lethal things would be best. Thanks for the info.

it really wouldn't, sassy, unless you are from NJ and used to wielding a aerosol can with skill.

Do you think my S&W 356 would be better? It's so heavy though. No, I think pepper spray. Can you get little sequin cases for those?

Seriously Prod, I was unaware that pepper spray is not a panacea. Thanks.
