It seems women under 30 on dating sites (I can't speak for EHarmony, but other ones I've been on...Plentyoffish, Okcupid, Datehookup, etc.) are all looking for some muscle-bound meathead kind of guy or guy whose genes were really generous to him, regardless of the woman's own attractiveness level. Most of the women on there range from butt-ugly to below average to average to kind of cute...and the average and kind of cute ones (keep in mind I'm average/cute myself, and have dated women like them or in some cases better) think they deserve Brad Pitt.

I know this for a fact because I messaged the same women that ignored or rejected my messages under the screen name "GymAddict" with some steroid using guy with a jerk-looking face, and another guy who was in a firefighter uniform, and both of those guys had so many women messaging them on their own pretty much offering up their numbers and facebook's on the spot without any conversation, despite the fact that I made those guys sound completely rude and misogynistic on their profiles.

Is this just because these are free dating sites, or is this what it's like on the paying ones as well?

I do think women's taste in men oftentimes changes across the lifespan. For example, in H.S. they like the 'jocks'. What you're describing just seems to be a continuation of this. I think when they get a bit older, and especially if they've had a bad marriage with the GymAddict type guy their preferences can start to change a bit.

The same can be said for guys....well, just about the same. Maybe not the muscle-bound meat-head part, but you know get the idea.

datehookup?

think about it. And I really wonder how many men are aware of the number of women actually "working" on the internet.

sure it changes. But I think you are wrong that most girls like the 'jocks' in high school. Everyone has a type really, but especially at that age.

I liked smart guys, artistic guys, musicians, or outdoorsy types. But never the dumb jock.

And though I like to think it, really I'm not that unique.

It's like this on the paying sites too. If women have multiple choices, they will respond to the "good looking" ones faster and first. It helps if you have a nice job and good profile about yourself to get responses. Women will choose someone who's average looking and rich over good looking and broke.

Exactly.

And how can the Op not know that those pics were faked by someone too?
He never met them.

What I don't understand, in the online dating world...is how it's ok for women to try to date out of their league (a girl that's a 5 or 6 or 7 looking for a 10) but it's not ok for a guy that's a 5 or 6 or 7 to date in his own league?

Maybe it's a bunch of phony profiles making it difficult for both sides?

I figured women would be over the jock thing by the age of 18...having probably dated one and learned how much of a jerk they are as well as sometimes abusive. (See the movie Fear with Mark Whelberg.) I expected more out of women in their 20s who claim to be looking for someone to settle down with.

And say what you want about guys...guys care about women's looks...but they are more open minded as to what looks good...not only that, we don't want a woman we think looks cute to show her off or feel validated.

The girl I dated and got fixated on her appearance, she was "pretty" but she wasn't anyone's idea of a playboy model or "hot girl." I was over that whole phase when I graduated high school.
