There's a lot of sad / angry / disappointed / used and abused men out there who think we take more than we give. So I thought we'd put a smile back on their little overspent faces by itemising our dating balance sheet! Hurray!

Think of it as a peace treaty if you will, in the battle of the sexes.

I'll go first. (assuming an exchange rate of £1 to $1.50)

Out
10 years financially supported my perfectly able bodied partner who would not work. Provided food, clothing, lodging and holidays.
Lets say $9000 x 10 = $90,000

Final payment to ex partner when we sold the house he'd never paid a single mortgage payment toward. $37,000

Recent cheap date where, when it was my round, he suggested I buy a bottle "because it's cheaper" ~ yeah for him! $22

In
A more recent ex took me on holiday as a present $678
Chocolates from a scarey stalker who wouldn't take no for an answer $48
Cake and coffee from a pleasent man on a first meet $10
Pudding in a restaurant (we were even on drinks) $ 6
Golf range second date (was great) $45

So my account is $ 126,235 in credit.

Am I bitter? No. Who with? What for? It's life.

So girls what does your credit / debit sheet look like?

I've spent money to help support one boyfriend who was out of work for six months. I also had a 4 year long distance relationship with a man in Michigan. I made most of the visits to him, and paid for most of the plane fare....4 visits a month on average.

So, it adds up to a lot, but I don't feel comfortable itemizing.

I paid the money because I cared very much for these individuals and I don't regret a minute of it.

I've never been very attached to my money, anyway. That's part of the reason I don't get some of the posters on this board.

A wonderful human connection is much more important than cash.

Me:
Paid for dinner, lunch, groceries: (don't remember exact figure)...let's say $400/month for six months: $2400

She bought lingerie and candles for a night of bowchikabowow: $100 (I don't know how much she spent this is arbitrary).

Fish sticks dinner she bought: $7

Mental anguish from her yelling at me in public, crying in my cubicle at work, tantrum when we went for a walk, and my coworker gosspied about it because thay saw her crying: $1,370,221

lol.
Last edited by PY_2; June 29,2010 at 12:53pm. Reason: Frozen fish sticks...which she almost burned.

Looks like my balance sheet except for the "In" part. Haven't had any "in" for about 10 years.

Yeah, I did that for eight years - not really looking to go there again.

Honestly, I LOLed at the topic but I'm not going to itemize anything for the bitter and disenfranchised. Any man I've ever married/dated/spent time with who feels he was put out financially is welcome to request reimbursement directly. All claims subject to proof and negotiation of course, but the last thing I want is someone running around feeling like they did me a good turn and were treated poorly in response and I doubt seriously anyone I've spent time with could honestly justify such feelings.

Between the ones who say we are being too independant/strident when we insist on paying our way and the ones who begrudge every penny spent without a return on investment I'm honestly beyond caring what anyone thinks. I do what I do. They can like it, negotiate something different, or not let the door hit 'em on the bum on the way out.
