I'm thinking about giving a flower to the girl I'm going to meet for the first date. Is this a good idea? What kind should I choose? I don't want to send the wrong message.

Only one and not a rose or a carnation.

Although it's a lovely thought, I would say don't do it - if you don't know someone, things may not turn out the way you expect (great if they do), as is often the case in the internet venue. I'd say save the flower & see if you end up going for a 2nd date & give it then.

this is already posted on another board here....might want to check it out...there most women felt it would be a nice touch to bring a single flower to someone you have been chatting to for a bit...

One would be a nice gesture, but I agree...not a rose or carnation. Maybe something you picked in the wild? But then again, she could be allergic to flowers...that would not go over so well. Any indication if she likes flowers?

I bring one-usually something unique (and in her favorite color-of course!). I brought a single rose with a tiny teddy bear attached once......you would have thought that I brought a pack of condoms, explosive devicesand handcuffs from the reaction it caused. LOL! Lesson learned-flowers carry a greater significance (especially roses) than I imagined.

Choose carefully.

I guess the bottom line is, "know thy date" and treat her accordingly. I mean, if you give a meaningful gift, then it truly will be appreciated.

That's true. She could have a psychological aversion to flowers or a deathly allergy. If this guy gives her a sweet little flower as a start to a nice first date, she might start screaming or suddenly seize up and choke to death.

Some women like flowers and others don't, as is evidenced by flower debates on these boards. So, my advice to you, is to find out if your date likes flowers. What kind does she like? Would she prefer cut flowers or a plant? Or, maybe nothing at all? Subtley ask her about it before deciding what to do and go from there. Good luck!
