I usually join 2 sites at a time and wanted to add on another. I've never done the kind of open season/super public sites but I think I am going to give it a try.

Any tips/strategies?

Make sure you have at least one photo of you hoisting a dead animal over your head.

You should have some good photos on POF, especially the one you choose for your main one. Also, make sure you tell something about yourself in your profile. As with any site, be prepared for a lot of rejection or non responses even though you can see your messages have been read at least.

As a current paid member of eH, I joined POF three weeks ago. I was tired of receiving so few matches lately and most of what I received on eH were obviously non payers and before I changed the importance of distance setting just a notch, I was receiving mostly matches from a half dozen states away.

It is amazing how many people that are active and close by on POF. I had my first meeting within two weeks of joining and have hopes with several others.

As an aside, other than a couple of times POF was down - once for most of a day - it is so refreshing while on the site to be able to go from one page to another effortlessly unlike eH - and eHa for that matter! - where I sometimes have to click five or six times to move to another page.

Be prepared. Be very prepared! (Read that as afraid)

POF seems to have a "hook up" atmosphere. You will receive a lot of e-mails at first. You might even receive a little "gift" (how cheesy is that?!). Just be sure to really screen who contacts you. I met more losers, liars and society rejects on there than any other site.

I really like the Yahoo personals best of all the dating sites. At least for my age group (I put ages 55 to 75 in my acceptable ages). The men there seem more open to dating women who are over 60 than what I've found on eH.

Haven't tried POF but might this summer, just for fun! I have started scanning matches again..just for fun again. but have kept my profile private. I want to decide who to send it to right now.

I got solicited for Senior Dating (or something like that) but most of my matches were on the east coast..not so interesting to me.

There are a lot of people on POF that have made poor life choices... just a warning. There's a reason why it's free...

Just a heads up, Yahoo and Match are combining. I think it will be Match on Yahoo or some other nonsense. If you had a Yahoo Personals account you should have been offered 4 days free during the switch over.

A picture of me in front of my parents' double-wide usually works for me

Thanks for the tips.

I have been browsing around POF and yes, I see that there is quite a melting pot over there. I have seen the worst profiles ever. However, once I figured out the advanced search I found a much better pool. I'm willing to try it....for a few weeks anyway.

I have never even heard of yahoo personals so I will browse around there. Thanks for the tip.

Yahoo personals is no more. They sold their user base to Match.

I don't get the snobbishness around here surrounding POF. Yes, women will get deluged with emails there. Yes, they will have to be selective. No, not everybody is who or what they say they are. No, you may not find your perfect mate instantly.

But I've been on there for about a year, and I'm not a bad guy. And I know of several women from these forums who are there too, and frankly, they happen to be purely delightful!

Between the small number of eHarmony subscribers in my area, and their execrable policies on non-member contacts, and the fact that as a non-member I can't even see a photo ... well, they're unlikely to ever get a dime from me.

Not to mention, the last local "match" they sent me was 5 to 6 inches taller than I am, and we all know how thrilled she'd likely be with that!
