Online, women often list "poor grammar" as something they cannot stand (men may list it as well, but I never see men's lists).

I imagine that when people refer to grammar, they are talking about more than the offical definition of grammar.

When you say poor grammar, what exactly do you mean? Are we talking sentence structure and subject/predicate agreement? Are we talking about pronunciation, like accents and saying "dat" instead of "that?" Are we talking about using slang?

I want a man who can communicate with me without giving me a headache. Do I care if he dangles a participle? Not so much. But if he types in textspeak (when not actually texting), it will drive me nuts.

Am I aware that there are grammatical errors in the above paragraph? You bet. But not the kind that bother me. Typing as you speak is fine. As is the occasional intentional rule breaking for effect.

In short, all of the above. When we communicate all of these elements play a role in articulating our thoughts. Everyone, including myself misspell from time to time or simply fail to complete and/or convey our thoughts as clearly as we could. Grammatical errors only detract from our communications clarity.

Perfect example TheThinker. I know I'm not a perfect speller, talker, communicator, etc. But, if you can't spell past 4th grade words and/or phonetics is the only way you spell, then there is a problem. Typing errors occur, no biggie there. If you can't spell what you do for a living, problem.

I've come to find that there are lots of people in the world who cannot spell correctly or know the proper use of words (their, there or they're).

Have you also come to find that such people are incapable of relationships, or simply unworthy?

Or, do you communicate with them?

If none of the above, is it a compatibility issue directly, or via the implication of something?

Or two, too and to. I even had an argument about this with a local college student. They really need to improve the English Department here.
